Arrow I'm With Cancer

Quote:
James McAvoy has signed on to star in I’m With Cancer, an autobiographical based on the experienced of Will Reiser, a producer on HBO’s Da Ali G Show and VH1’s Best Week Ever.

Reiser’s spec script tells the story of a 25-year-old who learns he has the disease. Seth Rogen is producing and will co-star in the yet-to-be-titled film. Nicole Holofcener (Lovely & Amazing, Friends with Money) is attached to direct, and filming is scheduled to begin in January 2010. The project was announced in October.

I would have thought that any serious illness-related comedies/dramedies in Hollywood would have fallen into development hell after the less than expected box office take of Judd Apatow’s Funny People, which also co-starred Rogen. But I guess Mandate Pictures sees something more in this project. Variety mentions that the film will probably be released under another title, which is the first step in selling it to the mainstream public. It is notable that this is the first film that McAvoy has signed on to since the Universal Pictures comic book adaptation of Wanted last year.

Rogen is just proving he doesn't have the chops for more serious fare, I feel sorry for this guy, with Rogen in this movie his story won't spread like it should.

Yeah, he seems to get a lot of hate on the boards.

UPDATE MARCH 2ND, 2010

JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT REPLACES JAMES

Hey,

James McCavoy dropped out of the project and replaced with Joseph Gordon- Levitt. Film is produced and co-stars Seth Rogen

Here is more:

Quote:
I’m not sure where the comment section trend of suggesting Joseph Gordon-Levitt for every available male role went from the spirit of genuine fandom to outright jokester parody, but here’s some fuel for the fire: James McAvoy has dropped out of the film formerly called I’m With Cancer, and will be replaced by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

MTV reports on the casting change, saying that the change took place after the shoot began. Ruh-roh. Conspiracy theorists, start your engines. But MTV’s tipster says that McAvoy left the production for personal reasons, and that the schedule was paused to allow JGL to get set up in Vancouver. Summit confirms the change, and filming will restart on March 8.

Producer and co-star Seth Rogen said of the switch:

It’s incredibly unfortunate that circumstances outside of everyone’s control have taken James away from the project, but, with James’s blessing, we were able to have Joseph step in to take on the [lead] role of Adam. We all look forward to working with James in the future.

Sad to see McAvoy go, as I think a lot of people have been curious to see what he’d do after Wanted. Not enough people have had a chance to see him in The Last Station, and he still has a forthcoming appearance in Robert Redford’s The Conspirator, which finished shooting some time ago.
Otherwise, little else about the Untitled Cancer Comedy seems to have changed. Rogen’s friend Will Reiser wrote the script based on his own experience with the disease, and JGL and Rogen co-star with Anna Kendrick and Bryce Dallas Howard, under the direction of Jonathan Levine.
Enjoy.

Far as I'm concerned Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a MAJOR step up in quality of star. I had no interest in this movie before, but I'll watch just about any movie Joseph makes and this will be no exception, I'm in!

Only movie I've ever seen him in was Wanted, it's not that I don't like him, he just isn't an actor I'd go to theaters to see, whereas, Joseph is one of my favorites and will watch any of his movies.

The only reason I didn't see because I know that its depressing. And I am a big fan of the genre.

But if my girl wants to see then I have no choice but to do it.

An ex-gf of mine was always watching that movie, and I knew I was gonna have to watch it eventually with her, and thankfully I was able to slip into an awake coma for most the movie and when she asked what I thought i said something along the lines of "wow, that was a powerful love story, good for them, I love happy endings where everything works out for the two people in love" not having paid any attention whatsoever, I was wrong, got in trouble and she locked that chastity belt tight for 2 weeks..............

Why didn't your girlfriend see it 6 years ago?

Oh, she did. She just found out that I didn't.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind romantic movie every now and then but the Notebook is a whole different story for me.

You poor dumb bastard, next time LIE! From what I recall, the only time worth watching is McAdams with her shirt off in the water. The common female reaction after viewing this movie "Why can't you be like him?!" and than you get slapped. Happened to several guys i know, lol.

I can't lie to her. I wouldn't, I have a good thing going on with her and want to share things with her. She is the best thing that happened to me.

You got to be kidding me Stewie, Notebook depressing? It's ugh I'm not going to even go into it.

Let's just say you saved yourself time.

As for the recasting thing, I think it's so odd and hilarious and great.

I used to confuse Joseph Gordon with James MacAvoy all the time, let me tell you my enthusiasm with this movie was like very low but now I accept this and will definitely see it if it gets good reviews.

JGL is a likable guy and 500 Days of Summer did wonders for the guy. Really launched him out there and he's got a cool personality.

MacAvoy to me is one of the most annoying actors out there. Talented but annoying.

Crap the director of The Wackness is doing it.
