Default WWE Presents The Rise & Fall of WCW (3-Disc DVD) -- August 25, 2009

No further info on this yet, but y'all remember how great of a job they did with the ECW release. Unfortunately, they will probably just be trashing WCW left and right, which sucks cause while the nWo was all of the place and the better wrestlers were held back, many would have to agree that they indeed had the best "wrestling" for a long time all around, especially with the extreme exposure the cruiserweights were given. This will be a documentary like the ECW release, but with 3 Discs, I'm sure will include many matches.

I doubt they'll just trash WCW left and right.

Especially when they're making cash off them now via On Demand.

It's a shame that WCW ended up falling. WWF really was subpar during that era.

They trashed the Ultimate Warrior, and they always made a lot of money on him.

I'd get it if it's on Blu.

I don't watch wrestling anymore, but man I did love the whole NWO/WCW rival back when I was in highschool.

Whats the point in putting all that SD footage on Blu just to have recent interviews in HD?

Colour me intrigued, I would like to see how they spin this one. I hope they focus enough time on the rise as well, the fall should be amusing considering all the material they have to work with.

WWE couldn't even handle the WCW "invasion" correctly. They buried WCW regularly during that angle.

Eric Bischoff was approached to do this DVD, but turned it down saying he has "no desire to give credibility to their revisionist hist.”

I watched Nitro more than Raw back then. Well I watched WCW more than the WWF. Everything about it was better. And Nitro was live unlike Raw.

If I remember right the WWF started getting better when the NWO started becoming bigger and started recruiting everybody. (Macho Man, Sting, Bret Hart)

Couldn't agree more.

Then when WCW saw how popular those groups were they made the NWO and that was the ultimate downfall of WCW.

Never let your talent have creative control of the product, it's a really BAD thing to do.

Groups like DX and Nation Of Domination were created after the nWo.

If fact, after the success of the nWo, WWE copied the group mentality many times during that period.

Off the top of my head:

DX
Nation Of Domination
The Disciples Of Apocalypse
Los Bariquas
Truth Commission
Oddities
The Ministry
The Corporation
The Corporate-Ministry
The Union
The Brood
Pretty Mean Sistas
Right To Censor
Kaientai
Mean Street Posse

I'm sure I'm missing a few. And this was just in the 1997-1999 timeframe.

Yeah, exactly. It was the other way around (this is around the time I stopped watching wrestling).

At one point it seemed like everyone in WWF was in some sort of group, and -- as seen in the list you typed up -- some of the groups were just ridiculous.

There was a time, for a while, when Nitro was beating Raw in the ratings. I think Nitro was always filmed live, and Raw began to be taped, so people would come out on Nitro and tell you everything that was going to happen on Raw that night, so you wouldn't have to watch it.

Totally true. Stone Cold was the best. Undertaker was great then too. I'm amazed he is still out there.

Goldberg? Awful. I loved when the WWF had Gillberg lol

The rise n fall of WCW... three people to blame: Eric Bischoff, Kevin Nash, and Hulk Hogan. WCW had some good wrestlers: Chris Jericho, Booker T. and Chris Benoit(too bad he turned into such a POS) to name a few.

ECW shows were probably the best back then. RVD, Sabu, Mike Awesome and Dudley Boyz. Those guys put on a show...for little money though..some of them got their pay day when they hit the WWE.

Sorry for the big picture, but here's the ratings for all Raws/Nitros from '95-2001.

The color key is in the bottom right.

Yeah, Nitro did badly after the Fingerpoke of Doom incident. Then only times it actually managed to get a good enough rating was when RAW was moved to Saturday nights due to the Westminister Dog Show, but after that WCW was finished. And the only reason why ECW shut down, was when TNN pulled the plug on it and ECW couldn't find another channel to air on. I miss old ECW.

I remember watching Nitro one night and Tony Shivani just all of a sudden while commenting on the match welcomed the WWF fans for switching over during the commercial break, then gave the results of the match. Then asked everyone to sit back and enjoy the live show.

Was that when he gave the results of the Mankind/Rock match, by saying that he won the title? That showed that Mick Foley put fans asses in their seats.
