Default Sound in a concrete basement

I was sitting here and started to wonder about sound and how it bounces of materials. One thing I wondered was how a (finished) concrete basement would effect the sound in my feeble home theater. My house was built a bit strange, its made from formed concrete, top and basement. The basement is underground and between the two floors we found a steel plate and I assume the reason for the steel plate is because there is a layer of concrete between the two. Now, I am just talking about the outer walls, the inside walls are basic sheet rock.

So, what kind of stuff will the concrete do to sound?

It will hold the sound in so you can turn it up louder without annoying the neighbors.

Yep... that's pretty much it as long as you have sheetrock, and other materials on the outside (like insulation) to absorb the sound, the concrete underneath it all likely won't affect the sound at all.

as much as it can insulate your room, it does cause a number of reflective points tho, unhealthy for your HT setup. id consider having a secondary wall and/or hanging insulation if you'd like. personally, id treat it with a number of acoustic panels to remove or minimize reflective points.

it also reinforces the lower frequencies too, so bass traps would be in order.
