Default Are MFSL Gold CDs really woth hundreds of $$$?

One of my favorite albums is Guns N' Roses' Appetite for Destruction and I see that Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab had a Gold CD pressed in 1997 that now fetches $300-$500 sealed. I probably will never get it, but I wanted to ask--is an MFSL Gold CD even worth that much, gven the emergence of SACD and Blu-ray Audio?

DVD-Audio is dead and SACD is on life support unless you're a classical fan.

They emerged ten years ago - peaking around 2003~2005.

The best version of Appetite for Destruction you can get is an original DGC vinyl pressing. The MFSL Gold Disc is pretty good though, good dynamics and virtually no clipping.

McCrutchy - Are you in the market for gold CDs? I have a bunch from MFSL and DCC. Pretty much Jazz & Blues though. I can let them go for far less than the hundreds people are asking for on e-bay.

There is a limited supply of them on the secondary market and enough demand for the particular pressings to keep prices high. The value of sealed copies is a little inflated because the remaining owners of them are trying to gouge newcomers to them. Some of those sealed copies in the upper stratosphere have been offered on sale for years with few takers.

Thanks for the offer btf1980, but it's more that I was wondering if the Gold CD was worth it for Appetite for Destruction. Doesn't seem so, especially as I have it on vinyl...

The sound quality can definitely be sampled before purchase if so inclined. Try googling "guns n roses appetite for destruction torrent mfsl" to hear a preview.
