Life on Mars (2006) UK TV series I think was shot 16mm or Super 16 according to what I've read.

Pride and Prejudice (1995) UK TV series was shot on Super-16 I've read.

I think some bits of Planet Earth were shot in 16mm - but mostly with HD video cameras.

Check this review from Dvdbeaver:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDRe...re_blu-ray.htm

Direct screen captures from the aforementioned Texas Chainsaw Massacre Blu-ray are included. Well-shot 16mm looks decent on Blu-ray while poorly filmed 16mm footage can look very bad on it.

Thank you. Seems like if not a good restoring is made the noise is too much. Nothing can ben done for out of focus image

Nothing I can say for pride and prejudice since the screenshots are not full size. Anyway 16mm is definitely not a material for bluray to me

I'd take a scratched old 16mm print over a digitally compressed DVD any day of the week. I own some 16mm films that blow away the quality of the DVD release.

Since this was bumped, worth mentioning Clerks and Chasing Amy coming in November. Clerks definitely won't be "eyecandy", but Chasing Amy should look good, if covered in a layer of grain.

And if they ever get around to putting old seasons of Scrubs on BD, they were shot on 16mm. Season Eight of Scrubs is coming in November on BD as well and features an episode with clips from the first episode that had been rescanned in 16:9 HD. Looked good.

But yeah, like ResOGlas said, 16mm is better in HD than SD regardless. Everything is better in HD.

Surely better than DVD. I expect for a good quality 16mm film to easily match 1080p video camera quality.

Well figured out I would resurrect this thread from the dead.

I was surprised to find Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels was shot on 16mm... well super 16. I have only seen the dvd. Is the blu-ray as terrible as the review makes it sound?

Anyone know of any 16mm material that really shines?

Watch and weep (of joy)

from this title

Now imagine something about 4-5 times bigger, that would be 35mm.
Something 40-50 times bigger, IMAX.

The Devil's Rejects was shot in 16mm, as was RZ's Halloween (not sure about II). Henry: Portrait of A Serial Killer was as well. Was Hardware in 16mm?

Oh wow, that is impressive. At first I thought you meant the 2005 one with Keira Knightly and I thought "no way" but it took me a few minutes to realize this was the older 1995 mini series version. Time for me to get cultured.

You guys are making me think they really could have done a lot better on the Lock Stock release as well.

Pro-B's reviews and comments on the image quality in this review really seal the deal there huh? I mean who know 16mm could hold up so well. I'm surprised actually. Very cool.
