Default Upgrading the Blu-ray

Why is I can play any Blu Ray but when i tried the New 007 movie it will not play the video and will only go to the main menu. Does the Blu-Ray need an upgrade for this video?

welcome to the foray koekhuyt!

what blu-ray player do you currently have?

some blu-ray players would need a firmware update on their current merchandise in the market, kindly check the current firmware you have (you can check your manual for these instructions) and/or check the main website of your player.

Welcome Koekhuyt!

Like jomari and un4gvn94538 said, you may need a firmware upgrade.

Are you Dutch?

Welcome koekhuyt! Likewise, it does sound like a firmware issue. What player are you using?

Thumbs down short sighted distributors

How stupid are the distributors? They are purposely changing the blu-ray format on new discs so that customers who have spent a lot of money on blu-ray players get the new James Bond film, or the film Doubt, only to find that they are unable to view the discs!! My mother doesn't know anything about upgrading firmware!! You idiots. Now you have a small army of disgruntled customers telling everyone and anyone within earshot what a bunch of crap blu-ray technology is. Your short-sightedness will cost you dearly and those of us who want the technology will have to suffer the increased costs because so many potential customers won't have anything to do with blu-ray because they've heard what a rip off it is. Shame on you idiots

Wow such hate. There are always quirks with new technology. If you're not ready to deal with these quirks then maybe you shouldn't be buying into new technology. These updates are required because the product that is coming out is simply better than its predecessor. Maybe your mother should wait until the boundaries can be pushed no further before she buys a bluray player.

Wow.
Oh New Jersey, that's why. Ok.

Anyway, if ya actually cared for a who to blame, look at the hardware manufacturer's. It's really mostly often a case of the hardware not following the specs properly in certain conditions which get discovered as more discs come out.

It would be nice if the OP actually participated in this thread. One post and he hasn't been back since. Oh well!

Someone needs to get with the times!! We don't live in the 80's and these are not your simple VHS and DVD players, we are in a high tech world now, so people need to "modernize". I think firmware is actually smart, its the manufacturers who are either slow to implement or don't keep up with the new tech and offer quick patches. If your mom doesn't know how to upgrade, tech her!! Heck if I can show my "whats wrong with VHS" dad how to run and keep up with his blu-ray, anyone can do it if they know how...

It sure beats having to buy a new blu-ray player ever six months because your old ones are out-dated!! (sorry for those who bought profile 1.0!!)

Most things I own I have to update sometimes, my iPhone, my Blu-ray, my wife... just modern times is all...

A first generation Blu-ray Player still useful if you dont care about BD-Live or profile 1.1 and DTSHDMA.everything else is working properly till now if you keep your 1st player updated with firmware when its available.

Thanks for posting that!

I'm going to be buying an HDTV and a Blu-ray player in the next month or so here and I was worried that when they come out with a new profile that the player that I buy would become obsolete. I'm glad the firmware updates address those issues.

To clarify: firmware updates are made available to improve player performance and correct issues with playing back certain titles, but in general (the PS3 having been a notable exception) they will not change a player's profile (1.0, 1.1/BonusView/2.0 BD-Live). Those profiles are distinguished by different hardware requirements; if a 1.0 player doesn't have the necessary pieces, no firmware upgrade can give it a later profile.

So if they ever decide to come out with Profile 2.??? or whatever, then we'd have to buy new players? Lame!
