Default The Plague of the Zombies (1966) coming from Scream Factory

Due in January

https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...roduct_id=6951

Quote:
Synopsis
"Gilling's Hammer chiller about zombies ... is highly atmospheric ... often imaginatively directed [and] boasts really classy photography and an outstanding performance from Jacqueline Pearce ..." – Time Out

In a remote 19th-century Cornish village, an evil presence lurks within the darkness of the witching hour. A mysterious plague relentlessly consumes lives at an unstoppable rate. Unable to find the cause, Dr. Peter Tompson enlists the help of his mentor, Sir James Forbes. Desperate to find an antidote, they instead find inexplicable horror: empty coffins with the diseased corpses missing! Following a series of strange and frightening clues, they discover a deserted mine where they discover a world of black magic and a doomed legion of flesh-eating slaves ... the walking dead!

Curiously, this sequence of titles chosen for release follows the error strewn Studio Canal Blu's started in the UK.
DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS was followed by ZOMBIES, which suffers from some audio sync issues in a few scenes, audio sync errors that were not an issue on older DVD releases.

No mention of a new scan for this but let's hope so.
Scanning and encoding technology has come a long long way in the last 6 years.

Of course, pray for error free releases!

IIRC the audio synch issues were player specific. I certainly never had any problems with it so while I will likely get the Shout DPOD I won't get Zombies.

I wonder if they'll get a real coup and secure The Devil Rides Out with both new and original effects

One of many Hammer titles that I gave up on waiting for a US release and imported from Amazon UK. Unless there's a new transfer I'll probably pass.

I have the Studio Canal blu-ray of Zombies and never encountered any audio problems with it, so it could be player specific as you say.

SC's blu-ray of Rasputin The Mad Monk on the other hand, had dreadful sound quality, even though the picture was excellent.

USA A hammer film production

Nice ! I have had the UK studio canal Bluray since it was first released. I hope they release The Viking Queen also in 2019. Thanks Shout ! I guess they will be releasing also ..Rasputin, Reptile, Frank Cre Woman, Witches, Devil R O, Slave Girls. The Fox Hammer films from 1965 to 1967. I Wish Shout ! would release Lust for a Vampire. Studio Canal did not ! Why ? That's what I would like to know.

I found the sound was much like the original Anchor Bay dvd. The music for the opening titles sounded dreadful but once the film started it all settled down

Frankenstein Created Woman has no UK release although what should have appeared is out in Australia. When SC cancelled the release the specially produced documentary intended to go on it which was Hammer Glamour was moved to The Witches. It retains its proper place on the FCW Oz disc.
As SC seem to be pulling the plug on more Hammer releases it will be interesting to see if their licencing of movies eases off a bit so that interested parties can get the stuff out there

To be fair, I don't have the earlier DVD to compare it with. The dialogue itself was still clear, that's true, but the music was very "tinny" and had no depth/bass. As soon as the 20th Century Fox fanfare starts to play, you realise right away something wasn't quite right.

But I have to say, out of all the Studio Canal blu-rays I have (which are very many), Rasputin was really the only one I could find fault with.

I'm just hoping that Scream rectifies the issues that some of the Hammer blu rays from the UK had like the audio for Rasputin during the main titles and maybe fixing the opening to The Reptile and some fixes to The Devil Rides Out and hopefully the release of The Legend Of The 7 Golden Vampires for the first time.
