Default WHAT TYPE OF TV TO GET THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS

OK PEOPLE LETS GET DOWN TO IT. I HOPE TO GET AS MANY POSTS AS POSSIBLE. TO FORM AN AVERAGE OPINION. OK I AM A BIG CONSOLE GAMER / PC AND AM A HUGE FAN OF BEATIFULL MOVIES. WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IS WHAT IS THE BEST TV TO FILL THE SPECTRUM. YOU KNOW WHAT TV CAN I CONNECT ALL OF THESE TO AND GET THE BEST PICTURE. ALSO THIS IS NOT A DISCUSSION ON 1080P/1080I. WE ALL KNOW 1080P IS KING. THIS IS A DISCUSSION TO ANSWER THE OLD QUESTION OF TUBE OR BIGSCREEN/LCD/DLP/LCOS/PLASMA/SED. ALSO DO YOU THINK THERE WILL BE A NOTICEABLE DIFRENCE ON 34 INCH WIDSCREEN TUBE BETWEEN 1080I/1080P OR IS IT JUST TO DARN SMALL. HOPE TO GET SOME INSIGHTFULL OPINIONS.

Mmmm... maybe there would be more enthousiams when you wouldn't use CAPS that much :|

About the TV choise, make sure you have a 1080p supporting TV with at least 2 1080p input devices that should give you maximum compatibility...

There are very few HDTVs capable of 1080p available and since I haven't had the opportunity to demo any of them I can't really give a good answer to your question. I would expect that even on a smaller set that 1080p would look better than 1080i but just how much better is still an unknown at least for me. Is there any 1080p content available yet?

Oh sorry for all the caps. The num lock was on and I didnt relize It till way later. Ok I thought about my question. And as of right now there Isnt much Info on different types of 1080p tvs. So maybe I should ask this question In 6 months. Well in the mean time what Is the best tv out there to fill the average movie/gamers needs. I beleive that the tube Is still king and so I picked the SONY 34XBR960. It has the best picture that I can find In terms of movies. Seeing as you dont have rainbows or screendoor efects/bad blacks. So If I was going to buy a tv this would be It. But I would sure like to hook up a console to it first. I was going to buy It three months ago. Till I heard about the 1080p tvs coming
(I am so siked about getting one)

Blu-Ray, HD-DVD and PS3 will all offer 1080p. Personally I'm interested in the new SED range of tvs as well as Sony's 46" LED and 70" rear pro SXRD, (a variation o0n LCOS). All feature 1080p and are supposedly better than lcd/plasma tvs for contrast, colour, brightness etc...2005 for the Sony sets, 2006 for SED.

All of the articles I've read have Toshiba stating that HD-DVD will be 1080i.

Yea hd-dvd doesnt have the compacity in one layer but it does in two. For your regular length movies. Ones like lord of the rings it hasnt got a chance. And so it goes back to that old rule Bigger is Better. BLueRay-dvd has enough space for lord of the rings extended version on one disc. And one crazy copyright that will take quit the hacker to crack. But will BlueRay-DVD get to do "Lord Of The Rings" is the question? :?:

In 1080p I mean. In 1080i I am not sure. I know I read some where that it takes some 25 gig to do a standard 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hour movie in HD. Now which format is the question. Eather way HD-DVD doesn't have the space in one layer.

Was that for movies, or tv shows? Just dvds are currently stored on dvd as a prog picture with 24fps. Obviously a tv show at 1080p 50/60fps would require a lot more disc space so perhaps tv shows will be in 1080i initially? Also, most tv shows will be broadcast in 720p/1080i, so maybe they won't bother recording in 1080p just yet. Anyway, I'd be very surprised if Blu-Ray and HD-DVD movies weren't encoded at 1080p24.

Mmm.. I don't think TV sets or tuners will upconvert images.
I think they'll just downconvert if they need to (when sending a 1080p signal to a (max) 720p screen).

Yes ! But the HD-DVD will be 720p/1080i so I can see the exact quality right now with the XviD encoded LOST & ALIAS episodes on the net
