Default Panasonic DMP-BD10A vs. Sony BDP-S300

I intend to upgrade to one of these two 2nd generation players. Even at 100 $ more the Panasonic seems to be the better choice with its Dolby TruHD decoding capabilities. It gives it the edge in the audio department and I think it is as good as the Sony with regard to video. Or am I missing something? I'd appreciate any advice! Thank you!

Yes, you are right! That offsets the price difference.

The Pannasonic also has the 7.1ch analog outs, just in case you have a receiver that is only HDMI Pass Thru or no HDMI at all. That way you'll get better sound than the Sony.

And did I mention 5 free movies lol

Hey does the New Sony have 6 channel analog output? I don't have a hdmi reciever, but have 8 channel analog input, otherwise I'm screwed if it doesn't?

The Sony has 6 channel analogs, but the Panasonic has have 8 channel analogs. I would go with the Panasonic player for the movies and the TrueHD capabilities. More and more movies are coming out this year with TrueHD.

Yeah, I"d get the 8 channel one as well, but I only have 5.1 set up in my home, my room isn't long enough for 7.1. I just read that the firmware 1.6 upgrade for the first generation sony allows it to decode True Hd, so would it be possible that somewhere down the road, there would be a similar upgrade for this new one coming out? I hope so, cause I don't wanna buy a first gen player when the 2nd generation is weeks away, and yes I do want Sony.

The one advantage of the Sony is the 1080P/24 output, HDMI 1.3 with xvYCC support. All of that is not important unless you own a display that can accept 1080P/24 inputs, etc. The Sony to get the advanced audio with 7.1 you need a new receiver with HDMI 1.3. The Panasonic with its 7.1 analog outputs is a nice feature.

Players can be delayed but the Sony and Panasonic should be available sometime next week. They both suppose to be shipping now to dealers. It may take a month until there is a large number of players available nationwide.

anybody found reviews online for either of these new players, I guess it would have to be an early review, but I wanna know, I wouldn't think panasonic could match sony's picture, atleast not with the tv's I've seen

What about upscaling SD DVDs? Isn't there a certain chip that does a superior job? I'm wondering if either of these have that chip.

If you have a 24p capable display, id get the sony. Otherwise, i'd get the panny for the 7.1 outs (if you use the analogs). If you are going to use hdmi for audio, then i'd just get the sony.

It does TrueHD, it will not do DTS HD-MA, but will give you the 1.5 core track from inside of it.

Yes, I think you are right with regard to TruHD, regrettably, and as far as I know it doesn't do DTS HD, either. I will therefore go for the Panny.
