Default Warner's Book Releases

Am I the only one who likes these book releases? Bonnie and Clyde was sweet with all the supp. material. Natural Born Killers looks to be sweet and Im bettin were gonna see stuff like One Flew Over The Cucko's Nest, Amadeus, The Exorcist and quality films like that in the near future. I like the idea, so what if they "look odd" in your case, your getting extra stuff, almost like lobby cards with your movie, I say release more! who's with me?

Personally I'd rather have something that's uniform on the shelf. The content of book I would probably flip through once while I'm on the toilet, and that'd be about it. The rest of the time I would be pissed that it's nowhere near the same size as everything else. If they'd just make them standard size I really wouldn't care, but as they are, I'm not buying.

I just read BStecke's post, and I agree with him. The coffee book releases make me want to puke!

I wouldn't mind it so much if it didn't make the actual Blu-ray cost more. It is $23.95 instead of the price it should have been $19.99. I have gotten into the habit of paying under $20 per movie when it comes to these catalog releases. So yeah can I deal with packaging concept of a book? Sure. But with the jacked up cost it brings and not even getting the director's cut of the film I will pass for now.

They are trying to make more $$$ out of the editions. I don't mind paying more for something that would add value, but the little $1 picture booklets are something that I would avoid (even at the same cost).

And I have no problem with that. But offer a standard version without all of that extra crap for less money and give us a choice.

When Blade Runner is 28 bucks for 5 discs and all of that content, and these coffee table ones are only five bucks less, there's something wrong. And considering it's a Warner release, I'd even dare say that's apples to apples.

Same here. A keep case is the optimal way of storing and preserving Blu-ray discs. I have already voiced my distaste for this style of packaging before and I will not buy them. Put 'em in a keep case and I will add it to my collection. And don't tell me to go to Sleevetown, buy replacement cases and print up an insert. That's not the point. There are enough people unhappy with this style of packaging that Warner should offer an alternative.

If you don't like 'em, don't buy 'em. That's the only way Warner will reconsider this lame excuse for marketing.

That is a good point. There is a lot of people that would buy a regular edition, but are passing on the coffee books. Forcing the customers into buying an unwanted product will not work.

I guess I will just add a post to up my post count but I agree with all of you. I hate when the cases arent uniform. That is why I remove the slip covers, box set cases, and anything else I can to make it look the same as the rest.

I could only see this marketing trend working for say Playboy releases, but not for movies.

Lets see how you feel when pages start falling out or a spindle breaks and it won't hold your disc securely.

Don't forget that Warner took years to listen to people about their DVD Snapper cases. So at least they aren't putting all their movies in these cases. I actually liked the idea until I saw that they were larger than the normal case. That's why I passed on Bonnie and Clyde, but Natural Born Killers is one of my favorite films so I might have to break down and get that one.

I don't mind the books. There are always going to be special releases that don't conform to the standard. This is nothing new, anyone with the Discovery: Atlas series has already encountered this very issue. CEOT3K may be standard in height but is about 2 1/4 size in width, so are you going to complain about not being able to fit as many blus on one shelf.
Seriously, 4 dollars? Maybe we're just lucky Blade Runner Col. set is underpriced. A classic movie on Blu-ray at this stage in the game, $22.95 (at Amazon). Where does the complaining end? Oh wait this is an internet forum, there is no end.
Anyways, I can understand not being pleased with inconsistant height, it can be frustrating. I do, however, appreciate the effort put into these and other special editions. My DVD collection is littered with slip-covers, steelbooks, double-wides, slightly tallers, special collection packs that are all over the place in terms of packaging, etc, etc.
If you enjoy the movie, buy the movie. If it really bugs you that much, get some blank Blu cases, print out the cover and toss the book.
