Here's another (German) review coming to the same conclusion: Inferior pq than the blu-ray, in particular distinctly less detailed: http://www.blurayreviews.ch/reviews/...ray-review.htm (google translate: https://translate.google.de/translat...htm&edit-text=)

They also say the HDR is rather unimpressive and mention some banding issues. Not that I'd really care about pq ratings, but they gave the blu-ray 5/5 and the UHD scarce 3/5 for pq.

Very harsh but truthful review. Reviewer did not hold back or sugar coat. Good find.

Without a TV with Dolby Vision capability it's a pretty moot point.

So not worth the purchase? I've noticed some other UHD films look amazing but with the quality of this disc, I'm not sure how the VUDU quality will be

I would just wait to see what Universal has to say about the disc for right now.

Is there a specific place we can complain to Universal?

Email Bill Hunt and other big name disc reviewers. They're in better positions to let our displeasure be known to the higher ups.

There was a feedback link to Universal a few pages back.

I did an a/b with the Blu-ray and it seems to be the same softer transfer that they also used for the UHD disc. Does not look horrible by itself has significantly more detail.

Remember that if you already have a movie on Blu-ray you can a/b with the first two minutes of the UHD version that you can watch for free on vudu.
That's what I did and it was enough to steer me away from the UHD version.

But be careful and realize that bitrates from streaming services are garbage compared to disc. That being said, obvious flaws in the image should still be apparent.

MS just updated the Xbox One S Blu-Ray player app. Can anyone who has Oblivion and it wouldn't play see if that fixed it?

So the BD in the UHD set is not the old BD we got a few years ago ?

I have no idea, I only compared my Blu-ray to the vudu UHD version.

I would not call them garbage anymore as vudu UHD often can be about 20 mbps H265. But in the end it doesn't matter, the poster I was answering to was specifically asking about the vudu version.

FWIW: I compared a few other vudu titles to their Blu-ray counterpart and in scenes that were reasonably quiet it looked pretty good, I was actually surprised how good even though only one newer title I checked (magic Mike) came from a 4k DCI.
