Both shot in 4k. 1 mastered at 2k. 1 mastered at 4k Guess which one looks better by miles? |

No? Then you can't compare them. That's like being mad that Ghostbusters doesn't look like Revenant. Oblivion is not as good looking as it could be, but at the end of the day it'd never look like Lucy due to the simple fact that it is NOT Lucy. We had these same complaints back in the early days of Blu-Ray as well. |

That's sad!
All 2K DI finished mastered with 2K VFX rendered. It's problem for 4K. So need upscales to 4K. Best natived film 4K or higher mastered to 4K like ping pong! -35mm negative film working on scanned 4K to 4K. Look very exellence picture with HDR. I stick to Sony finished work done on all Sony films are 4K scanned! ![]() |

Not sure if anyone here has a Dolby Vision TV and the 4K Blu-ray to compare. If there are high quality screen captures of the 4K blu-ray, I can compare against the Vudu version. |

For me it's just that I was blown away by the BD of Oblivion when it first came out. I was expecting to be blown away again by the UHD BD. That is what Lucy did but not Oblivion.

Your logic is incorrect. The current reference 4k blu rays that were shot in 4k and finished in 4k, all have the same sharpness and "look". This includes: Smurfs 2 Sicario Revenant Lucy Also, Smurfs 2 and Oblivion used sony cinealta F65 4k cameras for about the entire movie. Lucy used the F65 but but not exclusively. Had oblivion gotten it's DI in 4k, it would just as sharp as the other above movies. And then the upscale process screwed up the sharpness, this movie was MEANT to be sharp. Also, I've got multiple people on AVS telling me that the vudu version also has spots of softness. |

I would like an example as well. Just because it's posted on AVSF doesn't make it absolute. I'm going to watch Lucy in UHD this weekend on Vudu. I can compare to see if there is quite a difference. I think we need to keep in mind the TV it's being watched on and the calibration. If I change a setting on my TV, it can make quite the difference.

oblivion blu ray vs "4k" version.
by the way, the colors at the detault settings are incredibly muted. I had to use "hdr+" and dynamic mode on my K8500 to make it look "normal". besides the resolution, it looks fantastic. But its heartbreaking seeing such a reference quality blu ray loose what made it reference quality on BD. pay attention to textures. on the 4k version, the texture is completely "smoothed" over. toms face, the tree bark, the inner part of the crater of the pentagon. look at the sharpness and defintion of tom cruises eyes. Horrendous. Throughout the movie you will see texture for sure, but on the BD the texture is just so much more defined and clean. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

A regular poster over at AVS tonight tried watching it, said he made it to the football stadium and shut it off, he knew right away that the people claiming softness were spot on, and didnt want to even bother watching the rest and basically ruining the BD experience. such a shame because the HDR and colors are great once you adjust them, coulda been reference if done right.
