How could they include any IMAX scenes since no part of this movie was shot on IMAX cameras?
It was released in IMAX through the super power of upscaling: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IMAX_DMR_films |

Joe Kosinski's previous movie, Tron Legacy also featured IMAX AR, even on Blu-ray, but no IMAX camera was used. In Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn shot the whole thing with the ARRI Alexa at 2.8K resolution. But he decided with the IMAX 3D release, he would expand the image, even for the Blu-ray release. Transformers: Age of Extinction used the Phantom 65, 4K 3D resolution. Captain America: Civil War's airport battle was shot with Alexa 65 at 6K resolution. They're "IMAX" cameras, but they're really just digital cameras with a larger sensor. So even for Oblivion, even though no IMAX cameras were used, but there exists a version with an expanded image. And we want that for home viewing pleasure! |

Aaaand that's another thing. Digital IMAX is just 2K+ resolution only. Not the most ground breaking technology.
