Oh and the atmos was great, just don't get why overall volume was lower than most Atmos tracks. Whatever you do, please don't play Dunkirk right after watching Oblivion or you'll bust a subwoofer!

The UHD is less sharp only 'on paper'.

It’s painfully obvious. I noticed it in the first 5 seconds of watching the UHD.
Straight thought my gear was broken. Literally had to put another UHD disc in, then the BD to make sure I wasn’t crazy. It is so bad I honestly don’t know how it ever made it to the manufacturing stage. Just an absolutely horrible UHD. The worst example of what the format has to offer over std bluray.
There is a tool.on your TV called Sharpness. Did you try messing with that?
This UHD is reference demo material!

This movie looks PHENOMENAL in UHD! Details, clarity of each frame, deep blacks, no banding or funky stuff happening in dark scenes. Morgan Freeman never looked cooler! Skin tones were as real as they can get, and I was glad there was an actual good plot behind it all!
Sometimes I wonder if those who say that the BD looks better than the UHD are using proper UHD gear and good premium HDMI cables.
5 BIG stars!!!
(I needed me a good movie after watching Dunkirk)
Let me guess: you watched this on a tiny flat screen TV and you were nowhere close.

Reference material! LOL! Now that funny, er, really stupid.

Somebody needs to visit the eye Doc and buy a bigger, better TV on the way home.

The BluRay blows this disc out of the water in the sharpness dept. UHD is a giant blur fest. I think I must have higher basic standards.

There’s upscales and then there’s this garbage that needs to get reworked in a bad way.

Yes, I have adjusted sharpness. It’s like polishing a turd.

This is the type of content that reassures us that our 4K setup was indeed a good investment, and it is now paying off.
Less sharp? You forget that this is 2160p vs 1080p on the bluray. Higher resolution makes up for whatever lack of sharpness.
Oblivion is the reason I advise everybody to NEVER listen to the experts and their reviews!

I kind of agree too as the image was not as "sharp" as I was hoping for with this being on UHD. However, my limited knowledge does understand too that this is an upscale form a 2K transfer.

With all that being said, I CANNOT wait to watch Lucy in 4K this week!!!
Low audio confirmed on my 5.1.2 Atmos system. However, the use of atmos was very immersive and well executed. Just had to bump master volume higher than normal by a few dbls

Skin tones were freakishly sharp and detailed, yes

How is a skin “tone” freakishly sharp and detailed?

That is not true that 2160 is sharper than 1080p, many HDR movies is not always sharper than the Blu Ray is and how you watch your tv does play a part to like sharpness should always be on 0 even LG Oled and the bigger Tv you have more details and faults will show up.

Oblivion

But what the HDR pass also seems to have done is smooth over (for lack of a better phrase) some of the details that were quite obvious in the original 1080p transfer

So the Oblivion HDR is less sharp than the Blu Ray but the HDR have better color then the Blu Ray has, so then you choose what you want.

Watched The purge last night 4K HDR it was not any better then the Blu Ray was so that 2160p is sharper is not always the case and that HDR will always look better then Blu Ray is again not the case, why you see it as sharper, could be that sharpness is on or something else is playing in like your 4K player is set to wrong mode, IDK,but sharp is not what I would say about it.
