LOL, well you need to put in the Blu Ray movie and see for yourself because yea some scenes look nice but other scenes look worse than the Blu Ray if you can't see that well good for you, but that tells me that you don't know how it should look like.you just in aw for the contrast and coloring if you can't see how soft it looks sometimes when the Blu Ray doesn't look that soft

Any particular scenes that you can mention to see how the UHD appears softer than bluray?

It is softer than the BD but people are exaggerating a bit. It's still sharp, just not as sharp as the BD.

I'd say it's a bit softer anywhere between the 0:00:00 mark to about 2:05:00.

The BD is sharper but I prefer the warmer look of the UHD and the Atmos track, and the HDR does provide some nice highlights. It would be nice to combine what's good about both discs--which is what the UHD should have been in the first place--but I'm still okay with what we got. I think if I was a bigger fan of the film itself I might have been bothered but I only put this disc in when I'm about to pass out anyways.

Softer is softer, but it will benefit from HDR of course and contrast and color would look better on HDR, but when the BD is sharper then why should the HDR look softer, so universal studio did something wrong here, either too much DNR or something, they took away some fine details that are on the BD.

Oblivion
HDR Contrast is better, color is better, highlights is better

Oblivion
BD is sharper, then you pick what you wanna buy or if you wanna upgrade it.

But Rocky thinks that all 4K or HDR will look better than 1080p but that is not always the case, but oblivion has better contrast, color etc, but it loses in sharpness.

Yeah, I don't mean to knock the movie. It's better than I thought it would be and I agree it's a good concept. I think I mentioned this earlier in this topic, but I feel like I would have enjoyed this even more if different casting decisions had been made. I have a weird "Tom Cruise" effect where in all his movies all I can see is Tom Cruise pretending like he's someone else, whereas with 99.9% of other actors I can fully view them as their character.

Not everything is supposed to look super sharp. A bit of softness is needed to make picture look more natural. Sharper not necessarly better.

If it was mastered in the BD then it should be on the 4K too, it is that simple, true to the source

Speaking of natural, it the BD of oblivion was Reference Quality, so it was not over-sharpening or anything like that.

Considering that tone is brightness, deepness, or hue of a tint or shade of a color, it can't be either freakishly sharp or detailed. So sounds like you're just making stuff up without actually knowing what you're talking about.

The "Tom Cruise" complex...I suffer of it too. You never see the character, only the actor wearing a costume to personify the character

The BD just lacks that pop and vibrance, and shadow details are poored. Compare the dark scenes in the scavs' caves...The bluray loses BIG TIME!
Look at Morgan Freeman in the dark scenes. Bluray struggles in all those dark areas

And still the blue ray is reference Quality, wonder why

I saw in a Review that digital noise reduction was applied to in the 4K. and of course it will pop more with HDR not always, but when the 4K disc is blurrier then the BD disc then you know that something was done wrong when they mastered it.

Well maybe on your un-calibrated Oled it would crush the blacks a little.but I don't have any problem with Morgan Freemans dark scene after my oled was calibrated.

From the guy who some time ago posted screenshots of Morgan Freeman lighting up a cigar in the dark because he wanted to know why those shots looked so bad on bluray
