I recently decided to pick up the standard bluray for 3 quid...and I will wait patiently and hope Universal decide to redo the 4K. Yes I know may never happen but the bluray looks great on my 65" so no complaints. I'm not set up for Dolby Atmos so not missing that.

I 'm so glad I don't have the OCD issues that plague so many here. I watch the UHD on my C7 and my C8 and think it looks great. The blu ray in itself set the bar very high and the fact you get it in a steel book made it even better. You want to know how good this UHD is..go watch Iron Man or Thor...you will never complain about Oblivion again.

u can try putting the sharpness to like around +5 or whatever looks best for this movie. I cranked mine up and thought it looked way better. made me forget about the softness and enjoy the hdr and colors. the real test will be seeing how it looks on my my new 82" which really exposes DNR and filtering.

I need to watch this again. I think I’ve only seen it once on my old Vizio M. I didn’t think it had sharpness issues at the time. But I also didn’t think Begins was that bad on that tv, then I saw it in my OLED...

I still wonder two things:
1- The engineer that did the uprezzing from 2k to 4K, did he really know what he/she was doing, did he/she know how to use the equipment to do the job? 2- How did it make it through Quality Control? Oblivion and Lucy were the two first titles released by Universal on UHD BD, Lucy looks outstanding, they should have taken good care with Oblivion as this kind of mess up doesn't help to sell a new format. |

It really goes to speak to my long theory is that these releases are farmed out into "teams", maybe even freelanced out in some cases and there is a good team and a worse one for Universal (A team, B team, basically). It would explain the inconsistencies.
Like with Apollo 13, King Kong, this. |
