Yeah, different IMAX theaters will often show different films or alternate showtimes between titles.

At the four here, two are showing 2001, one is showing 2001 during the day and Dark Knight at night, and one is showing The Meg. The schedule isn't fully up for next week, but I see two theaters are showing the Marvel movies, and one is continuing with evening shows of Dark Knight (nothing for the day time shows), Kin comes out in IMAX next week as well so that might take the other showings.

If it opens up at Udvar, I would love to buy tickets for it just to experience it for the first time and enjoying the film for it's "Masterpiece status"
2001: A Space Odyssey was filmed mostly on standard 70mm, which has an aspect ratio of 2.28:1. It was projected in 2.20:1 as was the standard practise. The 35mm prints were 2.35:1. So, they might have more width than the 70mm prints but less height. This was the case with 'My Fair Lady' on 70mm and 35mm.
However, the new "unrestored" version of 2001 by Chris Nolan uses the original 2.20:1 aspect ratio. So, it should fill most of the 1.90:1 ratio IMAX screens.

Interesting....Well after I got out of Happy Time Murders (meh) I walked into the IMAX screening of 2001 and yep it's letterboxed in it's digital presentation.

Perhaps as a counter to the Marvel IMAX Labor Day week. Regal will be offering its own discount premium large format re-release week by showing the Lord of the Rings trilogy in RPX for $5 per ticket this coming week.

Starting Friday:

IMAX 40 miles away: Kin (2D)
IMAX 70 miles away: The Meg (2D)

no MCU fest for me :/

...If I were to see The Meg, which would be better: IMAX 2D (if it was showing in IMAX 3D I wouldn't be asking), or 3D w/Dolby Atmos (I've not been to this auditorium yet, new upgrade).

(Next up in IMAX for me: First Man)

anyone read or know if Marvel and IMAX remixed some of the prior movies that had Dolby Atmos mixes, Captain America: Winter Soldier, Iron Man 3 to 12-channel (laser) sound ??

They did do a 12 channel mix for Blade Runner: The Final Cut last year which had even more limited IMAX showings (saw it in IMAX digital with 12 channel sound and it looked great and sounded even better) so there is precedent for that, and since the marathon is playing in Laser we know new masters must've been prepared for the pre Ultron titles.

But I wouldn't be surprised either way, and probably need someone to go to ones of those showings in 12 channel sound and report (even then they may not notice, sadly Ragnarok and Ant-Man and the Wasp barely used the extra channels, Infinity War was a bit more aggressive though).

Warner's also did a theatrical Atmos mix for 'Blade Runner' too.

out of curiosity where did you see it, I thought I had read that IMAX-digital screens were being changed over to 12-channel with the upcoming upgrades of the AMC/Regal IMAX setups to laser/12-channel.

I am curious if anyone who saw Iron Man 1 can confirm the extended/additional scenes from the FX TV Broadcast? I doubt it as it would have been advertised as such ....maybe?

AMC Empire 25. They did renovations last Spring (I believe reopened with Fate of the Furious) where they installed new seating, interior design, and 12 channel sound like with laser, but kept the digital projector. It was part of this program, and based on the announcement, seems like only done at a few theaters

So previously I'd heard that Mission: Impossible - Fallout was shot with the Panasonic Millennium DXL2 and the Red Monstro for the IMAX scenes.

Well the American Cinematographer article is out and, according to that, it was actually the older DXL1 and Red Weapon Dragon cameras. Before the actual jump, the IMAX-ratio shots on the plane were done with the DXL, and then the Reds were used for skydiving footage. Once they enter the building they've landed on it switches to a mix of Red and DXL. The helicopter chase is mostly DXL footage but the shots inside Tom Cruise's cockpit were done on the Red because they couldn't fit the DXL in there.

First Man update - Universal (at the moment) will not be making 15/70mm prints of the film.

Saw Mission: Impossible - Fallout in IMAX 2D today. I sat on the centre seat of the fifth row from the front. The reason was I wanted to have that immersive feeling with the screen borders disappearing beyond my field of vision; like in a 15/70 auditorium. And my I was so wrong!

I was rewarded with glorious pixels! I could see every individual blocks clearly and every horizontal line of the 2K projection.
During the 35mm portions, which had grain, the pixels appeared less obtrusive, but during the digitally shot IMAX sequences, which was really clean, I could see all the pixels.

My seat can be seen below.
Kolkata Liemax.jpg

This is truly Liemax of the first order if sitting on the fifth row from the screen we still can make out individual pixel blocks.
I enjoyed the dual 4K (non-IMAX) presentation of the film better! No pixels were visible and the screen was over 4 stories tall, while this digital IMAX is a little over two stories tall. Sound was good. However it wasn't a match for the Dolby Atmos I heard on the dual 4K screen.

The IMAX scenes were shot really well. The expansions were subtle because the aspect ratio of 2.39:1 and 1.89:1 are similar. Had it not been for the pixellation, the fifth row experience would have been great!

I know that for film stuff petitions are generally useless but just trying to get the word out re: the whole First Man 15/70 debacle.

https://www.change.org/p/universal-p...70mm-imax-film

Letting Chazelle shoot in the format and have the aspect ratio expansions and then *not* have prints is discouraging...

It's not great but when a movie the size of Force Awakens only got something like 20 15/70 prints worldwide to showcase its true IMAX sequence (created solely for the IMAX venues that had no digital projector) then I'm not surprised that a movie made for relative peanuts is being shunned for 15/70 representation despite its true IMAX origination. At least it saves me spunking £100 on a trip to London to see it.

The fact that there will be no 15/70 prints means the IMAX ratio is mostly useless. Because very few Imax Laser theatres have the 1.43:1 ratio. Almost all IMAX screens are 2K 1.89:1. So, the square-ish ratio was wasted.

Ehh, if anything the majority of IMAX Laser locations are 1.43. Only 1.90 laser location Stateside is the TCL Chinese, the rest are in UK/Europe/Asia. I'm surprised actually how many locations in Western Europe (two in France, as well as Berlin and Brussels) have 1.43/laser. Guess best option for UK folks who want to see First Man as intended is Eurostar their way to Brussels...
