Wow, sweet man. Thanks.

Wonder if the Louisville area will ever get a 4k Laser Imax.

Thanks! You're missing a few in Europe like the Geneva one (Pathé have at least 17 IMAX theatres), this article can help. If anyone has information about Pathé's Geneva IMAX screens/projection systems (pretty sure there's more than one in the Geneva multiplex) that would be great.

WBFF-TV (Fox Baltimore) showed a short video segment about the "upgrade" on their late news. Sadly, it's not the dual 4K IMAX GT Laser system but the old 2K IMAX Digital dual xenon system. I was not pleased when they showed the booth and those projectors.

They also mentioned that a new screen was installed and its dimensions, which are the same as the original screen.

That's f*cking stupid. Talk about an "upgrade."

I was planning on seeing Endgame there too (and yeah, I know it's shot on a 1.90:1 AR, but the Laser projection is miles ahead compared to the Xenon projectors).

According to their Facebook post, the sound system was updated. However, they didn't give details or indicate if it was updated to IMAX 12-channel sound format.
https://www.facebook.com/MarylandSci...5698857006627/

Here are links with photos of the three IMAX digital projection systems:
IMAX Digital Xenon (dual 2K xenon)
IMAX GT Laser (dual 4K laser)
IMAX Commercial Laser (single 4K laser)

The projectors that WBFF-TV showed were IMAX Digital (seen in the first link) and not IMAX Laser.

Does anyone know what movies IMAX will actually have in 3D this year? I’m thinking about signing up for AMC A-List as this summer looks packed but a lot of these titles I’m just as happy to wait for home video if they won’t be in 3D...I’ve already scaled way back specifically because of no 3D...

As it’s been, I usually just catch the “tent pole” movies in theaters and watch the dramas and all the rest at home. If I had A-List I’m sure I’d watch them all at the theater, but I’m pretty indifferent about it since my home theater is very nice. Even something like John Wick 3 would be a home watch.

The word was they were planning on doing 5-10 3D releases a year in the US back when it first announced. Though they ended up doing a good amount last year: I saw Pacific Rim Uprising, Ready Player One, Pandas, Infinity War, Solo, Fallen Kingdom (this was in England where IMAX showings are more common, but played in US IMAX 3D as well), Ant-Man and the Wasp, Alpha, Venom, Mortal Engines, and Aquaman in IMAX 3D last year.

So far this year, the only titles they’ve done are The Wandering Earth (probably they are not counting this as it only played in about 30 US theaters) and Alita. It does look like Dumbo and Shazam will be 2D only based on early showings I see listed online, though if Endgame doesn’t get 3D showings, then I think there is a sign they are really limiting things. I wouldn’t expect any family oriented movies to play in 3D either way though.

You're not the only one! Plenty in the Captain Marvel 3D thread. If everyone wrote to IMAX USA...

Quote:
Maze Runner: The Death Cure
A Wrinkle In Time
Tomb Raider
Rampage
Incredibles 2
M:I Fallout
The Meg
The Predator
The Grinch
Crimes of Grindelwald (with incredible frame breaking exclusive to the IMAX 3D. It isn't on the 3D blu-ray)
Ralph Breaks The Internet
Lego Movie 2
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

Seriously, I've written many times in support of 3D to different entities and it's always worthwhile.

This list is kept up to date, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List...leased_in_IMAX it tells, in the Notes, if a film will be in 3D, 2D or, usually the case lately, that it is available in 3D or 2D, so, that will depend on the individual IMAX...but, it’s more up to the studios and IMAX what is sent, rather than the cinema. I still do not understand the trend away from 3D in the US...nearly every IMAX charges the same for 2D or 3D, so it’s not about price. It does note if a film is opened up (1.90:1 AR...it does not provide information about whether it will show in 1.43:1 AR in laser IMAX.) ...This list can change when a film is close to its release date, thus the vague info. for future films.

Even though it was 2D and not 3D, I did enjoy Captain Marvel more than I thought I would. Much of the film is opened to 1.90:1 AR. ...Although, I admit, I may try to see it in regular 3D if I get the chance with the limited 3D showings.

From what information I've gathered... End Game was shot in 1.90 Digital Imax, and it's showing at the Imax Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis, which is a true 15/70 Imax, which at full screen, is a 4:3 format.

So if I was to go see End Game there, it would still be displayed in 1.90, and it will be the same exact size as a LieMax screen, and not a full screen presentation like when seeing Dunkirk.
Yes but it's still larger than a typical LieMAX screen. You would have about a 44 foot tall image in 1.9 ratio at the Indiana Museum IMAX compared to around a 30 foot tall image in 1.9 ratio at a typical LieMAX screen.

their explanation:

"We installed all brand-new, state-of-the-art speakers. There are now 15 speakers total in the theater (including a sub-bass array made up of 8 different elements) that together create a surround sound system you can't get anywhere else."

Couple questions on this.

So Batman Begins wasn't filmed at all in 70mm right? So why are they showing that?

DK and DKR were partially shot in 70mm, so the aspect ratio will change during the film. Correct?

Batman Begins wasn’t shot using IMAX film, but that is still Nolan’s preferred way to have the film viewed, same as with Inception. And yes it will be a straight scope presentation.

Too bad that it’s just one day and all as a marathon, I won’t be able to go on April 13th anyway, but had it been a week long run with alternating showtimes (like the Marvel festival) definitely would have been interested in seeing Begins in IMAX. I have seen the other two (Rises in IMAX digital at AMC Empire during its original run and Dark Knight in 15/70 at Lincoln Square last summer).

They went fast, but managed to get a ticket! I saw the special anniversary IMAX screening of Dark Knight last summer, but haven't seen Begins or Rises in IMAX since their original release. Plus, Nolan will be doing a Q&A, which should make it even more worthwhile.

Neither was Rogue One, but the 70mm version I saw was the best it has looked
