List?

List?
I believe there is about 100 theatres left that are capable of showing 15/70, people seem to forget that 15/70 was designed for long theatre runs of IMAX movies, these IMAX movies would play for years, and years a the venue. The last documentary IMAX in Washington was print that was more than 15 years old.

Now, with Hollywood product in IMAX, the movies needs the long run to do well, so there are only a few 15/70 titles worth booking.

Only fair to ask both you.

But seriously why didn't you just say the same thing you said to me (about the op) to the poster that said there we're 3?

Gahhh

Edit: Pagemaster used the word film and filming so maybe just film stock projectors 15/70?

Nice picture I imagined you to have dark hair and be older.

IMO, any discussion about 15/70 exhibition should also discuss 15/70 filming. They go hand in hand.

It depends, 15/70 is only good if the movie was filmed in 15/70, otherwise, matching the showing to the correct way it was filmed will be superior.

If anyone watched the Dark Knight, the 35mm worth nothing at all special. It was only when the movie went into 15/70 was it then worth it.

Skyfall, was 4K blowup to 15/70

The Hobbit was a 2K blowup to 15/70

Most people do not get this, in order to benefit from 15/70, the movie needs to be shot in 15/70.....Would people get all excited to watch a 35mm blowup to 5/70mm without the magnetic sound? No....so why is everyone all of a sudden getting all excited to watch 35mm or 2K blown up to 15/70....such misinformation by so many...

Even Roger Deakins on his own website said, why would you want to watch SkyFall in IMAX 15/70 when the movie was shot in 4K...he recommended that the viewer should watch it in 4K...

A very large screen size still makes for an immersive experience. I've seen many 35mm or 35mm blown up to 15/70 projections, and they looked great.

I think though in the instance of Skyfall - even though it would ideal to watch the film on a 4K DLP/LCoS digital system, the incentive for the IMAX engagement was the film's AR was altered to fill up more of the screen. 'Apollo 13' was the first Hollywood film to go the DMR route, and since then it's been the norm - it's really no different than 35mm blowups of 70mm films in the 1970's-80's.

Fair enough and good comments. But when the director of photography says that people should not get to excited about the imax format and should see it in 4k, he might just have a point.

I'm all for imax but in the instance of skyfall seeing a 4k movie in 4k was what was intended. The framing was not altered, in the camera frame for skyfall was that size. So it technically was filmed in a close to 16x9 frame but the intention was 2:35,1 from the start.

Question Classic, "Larger," IMAX in Orange county, CA

Here in Arizona, I am familiar with the one larger IMAX. But I'm going to be near Anaheim, CA, when the new Star Trek is released. Which is the "right" IMAX theater to try to get to? Thanks.

I would say check out the Edwards Irvine Spectrum which is near Anaheim, or if your going to be around the LA area, then I would venture to the AMC in Universal City or Rave Cinemas which is near LAX. These three theaters are 15/70mm.

Good suggestions and if none of those work just reference this list, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_IMAX_venues#US_C, and look for nearby theaters that have (15/70mm, 3D) behind them. Make sure it is 3D and not 2D because Paramount is not doing any 2D IMAX prints of this movie.

Default STID 15/70 IMAX in Dallas Area? Cinemark Webb Chapel?

Can anyone in the DFW area confirm that the Cinemark 17 in Dallas on Webb Chapel will show Star Trek: Into Darkness in 15/70mm true IMAX?

They did this for The Dark Knight Rises, which was awesome (And saved us from our trip to Houston which we had planned since Houston was going to be the closest city to us. We'd rather not have to go to Austin or Houston).

I know for certain that ST: ID will be one of the movies with true IMAX footage:

http://www.slashfilm.com/star-trek-i...he-enterprise/

Thanks!!!
