![]() Another question since I have avoided LieMAX theaters like the plague: are there differences in "presentation" between various LieMAX theaters? For example, you mentioned that there probably isn't much difference between Cinemark Webb Chapel Digital IMAX and AMC Northpark Digital IMAX. Would you say that the other LieMAX theaters in the DFW area are also about the same as these for "presentation?" (If you know). Nationwide? My fear is I'll walk into, say, AMC Firewheel Digital IMAX (Garland, TX, the closest LieMAX to my house), but it will be a much worse "presentation" than AMC Northpark Digital IMAX. |

![]() Having said that, AMC seems to have an extensive partnership with IMAX, whereas Cinemark has only one IMAX venue in Dallas. Variation should be greatly reduced between AMC theaters. On the other hand, the IMAX auditorium at Cinemark Webb Chapel was designed specifically to house an IMAX screen and was not a retrofit like AMC's mall-based theaters. Each has its own plusses and minuses. |

You should see the aspect ratio switch full screen to take full advantage of the top and bottom of the screen. Then it'll switch back to 'normal'. I think 2k releases are generally for the home release type stuff tbh, so you'll always see them go back and 're-master' something if there was an ability to extract greater quality from the original source. |

Does anyone know how much of ST: Into Darkness was shot with IMAX cameras? There are a couple of real IMAX theaters within driving distance, so I'm thinking of seeing this at one of them--but only if there's a decent amount of IMAX footage.
Also, does anyone know where the film will be showing from a 70mm print and not from a digital source? Last edited by noirjunkie; 05-12-2013 at 09:47 AM. |

I'm just going to repost what I put on the other thread.
I saw Toy Story 3 in a real IMAX, but I was so close to the screen (I came late) and got glasses that were so small, I couldn't tell the difference. This is the Bob Bullock in Austin btw. Then I went to see Oz the Great and Powerful in lieMAX at AMC Barton Creek Square. I got better seat, but I couldn't tell if it was a smaller screen because of my last experience. But the sound was FANTASTIC. Coming back to the Bob Bullock to see Man of Steel this summer, and see the difference. Another question, how early should I come to see Man of Steel and get good seats? |

Can anyone here who has seen films in both digital and 15/70 speak to the differences between them? I've only ever seen actual prints, and I'm reticent to pay the extra money for a digital projection in IMAX. |

I know the sound will be amazing, but I keep reading articles on how digital imax uses two 2k projectors while Sony's projectors are 4k and provide a better picture. I just want to make things clear. Are those articles correct?

This is the response I finally got from Cinemark 17 in Dallas on Webb Chapel as to whether ST: Into Darkness will be shown in 15/70:

There are 35mm and 70mm prints of Star Trek: Into Darkness;
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1408101/...ef_=tt_dt_spec If the 70mm 2D print is not the same as one strip of the 3D version, I understand the decision to only print, and screen, the 3D version, and albeit annoying, the environmentalist in me agrees with this decision as well. Heading to AMC Tyson's Corner 16 in Northern Virginia tonight and can't decide between IMAX 3D and ETX with Atmos sound (searching led me to this thread). There are several articles floating around hyping the Atmos collaboration for Star Trek so I'm really tempted to go for ETX over IMAX.
Thoughts? |
