personally I couldn't tell which scenes were shot as such and even on a big IMAX screen seemed visually pointless.
well duh... but given the number of films DMR'd from 35mm print elements, the trend is not going to stop and it's been like this for years. |

Now, with Hollywood product in IMAX, the movies needs the long run to do well, so there are only a few 15/70 titles worth booking. Quote:

It depends, 15/70 is only good if the movie was filmed in 15/70, otherwise, matching the showing to the correct way it was filmed will be superior.
If anyone watched the Dark Knight, the 35mm worth nothing at all special. It was only when the movie went into 15/70 was it then worth it. Skyfall, was 4K blowup to 15/70 The Hobbit was a 2K blowup to 15/70 |

Even Roger Deakins on his own website said, why would you want to watch SkyFall in IMAX 15/70 when the movie was shot in 4K...he recommended that the viewer should watch it in 4K... Last edited by pagemaster; 04-14-2013 at 09:44 PM. |

I'm all for imax but in the instance of skyfall seeing a 4k movie in 4k was what was intended. The framing was not altered, in the camera frame for skyfall was that size. So it technically was filmed in a close to 16x9 frame but the intention was 2:35,1 from the start. Last edited by pagemaster; 04-15-2013 at 02:18 AM. |

Here in Arizona, I am familiar with the one larger IMAX. But I'm going to be near Anaheim, CA, when the new Star Trek is released. Which is the "right" IMAX theater to try to get to? Thanks.

I would say check out the Edwards Irvine Spectrum which is near Anaheim, or if your going to be around the LA area, then I would venture to the AMC in Universal City or Rave Cinemas which is near LAX. These three theaters are 15/70mm.

Can anyone in the DFW area confirm that the Cinemark 17 in Dallas on Webb Chapel will show Star Trek: Into Darkness in 15/70mm true IMAX?
They did this for The Dark Knight Rises, which was awesome (And saved us from our trip to Houston which we had planned since Houston was going to be the closest city to us. We'd rather not have to go to Austin or Houston). I know for certain that ST: ID will be one of the movies with true IMAX footage: http://www.slashfilm.com/star-trek-i...he-enterprise/ Thanks!!! |
