It did. The entire Millenium Falcon sequence on Jakku opened up to 1.90:1.

Is it possible you watched it on a scope screen (for instance the last two Transformers movies didn't have aspect ratio switches when I saw them in IMAX cause they decided instead to fill the scope screen for the entire movie)?

Anyway, I did my third viewing in IMAX laser 3D (after regular 3D and Dolby Cinema 2D for other viewings) and the 1:43 scene was very noticeable and impressive, and it did expand to 1.9 for screens/projectors with that ratio.

The screen is definitely 1.9:1 (I watched Dunkirk there and it switched between 2.2:1 and 1.9:1). I only got to see TFA once on the big screen and I was probably too excited to notice any change in aspect ratio.

Interesting snippet re: BR 2049 - Deakins and co didn't do the DMR special sauce upscale on BR2049, they did their own reformat to 1.9:1 and retime, much like Skyfall.

Thanks for the link. Will be going to see this in IMAX 2D. The standard version will most likely be 4K since it is a Sony release.

I believe that this is a Warner Bros. release. This is a joint venture between WB, Sony and Alcon.

Firstly let me apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I was overwhelmed with events at the Toronto International Film Festival.

I apologize for the recurring sound issues at this venue and will have our technicians investigate immediately.

Joe will be in touch and provide two complimentary tickets in the hope we can regain you trust.

We'll try and get this fixed for Blade Runner and would love a report from you. Glad you like Udvar, one of my favourite IMAXes.

Wow...Was not expecting such a fast response like that and second, 2 free IMAX passes (Hollywood movie money :\ ) It was a very nice gesture but I am really hoping that they do send a team to look into my local IMAX (regal manassas) to see WTF is going on with their system. 6 months of problems with their IMAX presentations is just too much.
IMAX is usually very good at dealing with any presentation issues I've found. Saw American Made in IMAX today and there was a problem and it started almost half an hour late, but they eliminated trailers going right into the IMAX countdown (which probably cut down half the time), and as the film ended there was AMC staff there giving vouchers as we walked out per IMAX's instructions (another bonus as I got this ticket using a coupon already, and when similar delays happened with regular AMC showings recently, they eliminated trailers but no vouchers)

As I expected given the only IMAX theater in my area it played in, the film was presented in scope in order to fill the screen. Does kinda make me wonder why the film wasn't shot in scope, as it looked really good for the flying sequences, though naturally there were parts of heads cropped off in interior dialogue scenes.

Why on earth would you want to see a non-scope movie like that?

I saw it at a standard theater (assumably 4K?) and it was in 1:85:1 and shot digitally, which was odd because I thought Limon & crew shot on film exclusively and the cinematography to me was spotty. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not.

Well, it was the only way to see it in IMAX, and I had forgot it was a 1.85 title till a couple scenes in where I noticed the cropping vs shots in the trailer.

It actually worked out pretty well with The Last Knight since no aspect ratio jumps (glad to have the VAR version at home, but think on a big screen like that it would've been distracting changing every shot) and the film fit scope fine, so I chose it there, but yeah this is definitely a film better seen on a flat screeen.

Yeah, I noticed that too with the cinematography. Liman always shot on film before as far as I know (even The Wall earlier this year), and the cinematography was a mixed bag and had an overly digital look in some spots IMO, the IMAX sound mix was nice though.

So, to get the full Justice League experience in 1:85:1, would audiences have to see it in IMAX? Because, wouldn't "regular" theaters, just show it in 2:35:1?

Regular theatres will show it 1.85:1. and so will most IMAXes. The question is will scope-screen IMAXes crop the image or not

I'm guessing they will crop it.

At this IMAX (AMC Kips Bay), they did present Riddick correctly in 1.9 using pillarboxes, but maybe people complained about that, and I first noticed them presenting 1.85 titles cropped to scope with Alice Through the Looking Glass (and that looked very sloppy, while there wasn't a lot of subtitles used, when they were the bottom parts of words were cut off for instance). Also, at AMC Empire, which is not a scope screen but is a bit wider than 1.9, I recall they completely filled the screen with The Avengers (the cropping wasn't really noticeable though then).

I actually think having scope IMAX screens aren't the worst as long as there are other IMAX options, as it works really well for the majority of films in that format, but yeah, I usually make sure to avoid seeing films with special IMAX formatting there.

So, will Justice League have any scenes in IMAX? Or would people better off seeing it in Regular Theaters?

The aspect ratio will be identical in all formats as it's already in 1.85:1.

No IMAX scenes (it's all shot on 4-perf 35mm). Justice League will be presented in 1.85:1 in all theaters.

Sorry if someone posted this but... this has to be IMAX's most ridiculous lie yet right? Carnival Cruise Lines made a big deal about having the "first IMAX at sea" and well... this is it.

That's like... a medium-sized normal theatre screen. It doesn't even look like the architecture is "optimized" for field of view immersion with a shallow seating angle. I mean I guess for a movie theatre crammed into a cruise ship it's not bad but... IMAX? Really?
