I believe the director of Pacific Rim said on Twitter there would be no IMAX expanded sequences (and IMDB recently updated their tech specs from including a 1.9 IMAX version to scope throughout).

Haven't heard anything about Tomb Raider, but with the film already out in some overseas territories and coming out this week, I'd be surprised if it opens up in IMAX.

I'm surprised the APO Pantars hold up, because I remember Greig Fraser said when he received them for Rogue One he noted they were not in good condition but since being used on Hateful Eight, Rogue One and now Infinity War and other productions they've been run out properly.
[edit] 4712x3100 is squeezed though. With the 1.25x desqueeze applied in the vertical domain then the image becomes 4712x2500-ish. On Last Jedi they did everything at 2048x1716 to keep the conventional 2x (1.2:1 squeezed) anamorphic ratio and to preserve the full height of the image they were capturing throughout the post-production chain, but in IW's case there's no reason to keep everything at 3000 lines of vertical resolution because you've got so much resolution to play with already.

As said, when the 1.25x squeeze of the UP70 glass is taken into account with the A3X sensor then the image you are physically shooting is 2.65. This is exactly how Rogue One was shot, them framing up for a conventional 2.40 'scope extraction, but taking it in even further to 1.90 is a bit more extreme. And yet with the resolution they're playing with and the beautiful quality of that glass then I guess there's enough there and then some to create a final 4K 1.90 extraction and then matte the 2.40 version out of that, still retaining all those glorious anamorphic characteristics.

Pacific Rim is a movie that would be holy shit amazing if projected in IMAX.

Can you imagine sitting in the first few rows of that IMAX screen looking up?

I'm gonna take a guess, bottom image is an ungraded Arriraw Log-C footage (colors are flat) and the top image has been graded for the first trailer.

I wish IMAX would not have scaled back their 3D presentations, it was just about the best way to watch movies in 3D.

They could easily have one or two 3D showings per day and the others in 2D if people really had a problem with depth and dimensionality to the movie.

IMAX is actually bright enough to do 3D right.

Are they really shooting UP70 glass for Infinity War? That would be a substantial crop, but then again the A3X sensors already capture a shit ton of visual data so I suppose it doesn't matter.

I would've loved to see Rogue One in its 2.60 aspect ratio.

Getting ready to buy Infinity War tickets and hoping for theater advice in the D/FW area. I've pretty much always made the Cinemark Imax my first choice but does anyone have any better ideas? I want to see this one on the best screen possible.

Apparently, Infinity Wars isn’t in Dolby Vision (but will be in Atmos). I guess the Dolby projectors will still make it look great but what’s stopping me from watching it in IMAX when it was shot for the format, kinda?

Has it been announced what aspect ratio the IMAX presentation of Infinity War will be in?

It will be DV. Dolby's listings are usually updated near release. (Last Jedi was only updated right before its release, IIRC).

Hope so. I could care less about the expanded ratio if it wasn’t specifically composed for that. This will be shown in many theaters in scope, so you really won’t be missing anything.

The whole thing. All of it was shot on IMAX digital cameras.

It was shot on the Alexa65

The trailer is 2.40
It is a mixture of anamorphic and spherical footage.

Appears to me it will open up to 1.9 on a scene/shot by scene/shot basis.

IMAX and Arri collaborated to make a 1.90:1 digital camera based on Alexa 65 tech.

You're right. They did use anamorphic and spherical, but I can presume the AR will be locked to 1.9 for IMAX viewings.

Soooo it will be like The recent Maze Runner IMAX presentation where the AR was locked the entire film?

In that case, Udvar for shuar!!..but NOT opening weekend....that will be nuts.

I am getting tired though of some of these movies months ahead of release saying select scenes in IMAX yet it is scoped the entire time for final product (Damn you TLJ!!)

A proper IMAX trailer. They're going 1.9 for majority it seems. The Alexa65 is a beautiful camera. (WTF couldn't JL look as epic as this? sad
