That's good. I loved the IMAX shots in the theater filling up the screen. Seeing that at home will be great too.

A bit too far outside of my area, unfortunately. I wish it weren't.

I understand what you're saying, I just hate the race to the bottom in terms of quality. Using digital projectors as a stop-gap measure in theaters that aren't even designed for them while they wait for the laser projections to be installed smacks of cheapness and a lack of professionalism. My own personal belief is that you should always present the consumer with the best possible product, not the cheapest.

Heh. Just because you didn't see it that AR, doesn't mean no-one else did. The larger IMAX version I saw was in 1.44 aspect ratio, so while the picture is indeed for "ilustrative [sic] purposes only", it's dead-on as to how the various presentations will differ.

I don't know what to tell you. If you go on Twitter, you can find people saying that they saw it in a full imax theater but the whole screen was not filled. That was my experience also. Would there really be different framings for the same type of print? I even talked to a guy on Twitter from Manchester UK and he had the same experience as me.

You might've been in one of the theaters using the stop-gap digital projectors that don't fill the screen.

It was at the Smithsonian, which is 15/70 film, not digital.

That really sounds odd b/c like Geoff D said, the movie is being shown with 1.44:1 sequences.

You might want to contact the Smithsonian and ask what was going on.

I contacted them and they told me the aspect ratio of the IMAX scenes were 1.66:1.

Fantastic! Your IMAX is run by people who don't even know their own technology!

Yes they do. As I said, the movie did not fill the entire screen, so the aspect ratio was NOT 1.43. Do you understand now?

Actually I might not be so quick to laugh. Now that I think about I seem to recall that the IMAX presentation in my theater (Whitaker Center, PA) didn't completely fill the screen either. I won't swear to the 1.66:1 aspect ration but there was a little bar on the top and possibly the bottom too. So lets all of us get to the bottom of this one!

Everyone says the AR is to be 1.44:1 and I agree but does anyone have confirmation that this is in fact the case?

Exactly.

Smithsonian IMAX theaters will be the first to get the new IMAX laser projectors and blu-ray fan girl thinks they don't know their technology? HAHAHA

Now I am not discrediting blu-ray_fan_girl and in fact I could be wrong as maybe I was so into the movie I mistook what I thought was black bars was actually just more space. I'm just saying there is now conflicting reports and even though places like imdb say the AR is 1.44:1 does anyone have confirmation of this fact?

Did you actually go see the movie or are you just posting a link to a website?
