You're right. Superman Returns, Spider-Man (Raimi films), the Harry Potter films, King Kong '05, Lord of the Rings, Iron Man 2,3, Batman Begins, Inception, Tintin among others, have all been projected in scope on IMAX screens.

My first LIEMAX 3D experience (Ant-Man and the Wasp)-

Image quality was better than regular 2K projection. Sound was good. But for someone who has seen films projected on IMAX 70mm in real 1.43:1 15-perf IMAX, six to eight storey tall screens, watching an "IMAX" screen barely two-storeys tall was a crashing disappointment.
I could see the entire screen by sitting at the centre row, on the centre seat. That's not what IMAX seating should be like. The centre row wasn't the optimum place for 3D and my eyes pained throughout the show. The 3D was better than your average screens but surprise, I could clearly make out the pixellated jagged edges.
This is one of the smallest IMAX in India now, with only 23 seats in a row. The auditorium smelled good though. I just can't imagine watching Chris Nolan films here. This auditorium won't do his large-scale filmmaking justice.
This IMAX indeed felt like "television in public."

The digi-IMAX screen near where I live is actually much larger and goes from the floor to ceiling. I saw Dunkirk again there and even from the back row, the field of vision was maximized.
It's not like when I saw Dunkirk in the real IMAX but it was close in its own way.

I just saw something about 2001 Space Odyssey getting a limited 70mm theatrical run. Did I miss that?!

Yeah it just closed up in NYC a couple weeks ago. Does sound like there will be a DCP run coming up soon, so may still have a chance to see it on the big screen for its 50th anniversary release.

My only real hope was that it would play at the Great Clips IMAX theater in Apple Valley MN. They have a real IMAX screen and a 70mm projector they roll out for Nolan films every few years (since they went 2K Digital IMAX a few years ago).

70mm on that screen is glorious. Tickets are worth every penny.

Well, 2001 was only doing a standard 5/70 release, so it wouldn't play in an IMAX anyway.

There is a limited 15/70 re-release of The Dark Knight coming up next month, but just four locations so far (though I hear there is some push on social media and even from IMAXes that have working film projectors to expand the release, so possibly but unlikely that plays in the Great Clips IMAX).

This is floor-to-ceiling as well. But the ceiling is really low for what amounts to "An IMAX Experience." It felt like I was watching a movie on a big TV, at times.

No, the 70mm is playing at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens starting today (Thursday).

The Museum plays it every year as part of their 70mm screening series (West Side Story and Sound of Music are other frequent selections part of it again this year), but the regular theatrical release at Village East closed a couple weeks back.

Though I found from reading about the 70mm re-release that it does sound like it will get an IMAX conversion for an August 24 release. If that is accurate, could explain why WB had been limiting Dark Knight showings. I do think an IMAX laser showing (assume it would be digital and laser only) at Lincoln Square would be great to see, but even if they reserve that screen for more Dark Knight showings, I would probably still go see it at either Empire 25 or Kips Bay.

BTW if anyone in the States/Canada is seeing Fallout tonight, watch out for a possible 4-min First Man preview...

question does the Museum of the Moving Image's screen have five front channels behind the screen? I was recently surprised to learn that San Francisco's Castro theater does not.

IMAX confirmed rumblings about a possible 70mm IMAX screening of The Dark Knight.

I sure hope it happens.

MI:F from what I can recall two scenes were in IMAX.. The jump out of the plane sequence and the final helicopter chase.

The Paris chase could have easily been a no brainner to film in IMAX..but it wasn't.
[Show spoiler]
IMHO the Halo Jump was kinda wasted. Why? Because I am pretty sure they shot it on a Sound Stage. There is no ****ing way they would shoot a drop into a storm with actors and an IMAX camera.

So I'll be in an area with 3 "IMAX" screens nearby next month (when The Meg will be playing) and I was wondering is there any way to find out the size of these screens to see which is the biggest?

Yes, and it's quite simple - Book your tickets online. When you do, you'll be shown the layout of the seats. If it has an average of over 35 to 40 seats in a row, then it's high chance it will be a very big screen. Anything below that and you risk finding yourself in a smaller room with low ceiling and a small looking screen.

By the way, 'The Meg' is constant 2.40:1, from what we've seen so far. There is no indication that the IMAX version will have an expanded aspect ratio. I'd suggest watch it on the biggest Dolby Vision screen instead, with 64 speaker surround sound. And don't hate sharks. They are not monsters as portrayed by Hollywood. They are a key part of the ocean ecosystem and are being driven to extinction by vile human beings. 'Jaws' helped demonise sharks in the minds of audiences worldwide.

[Show spoiler]it was done for real, shot over Abu Dhabi. The storm and Paris stuff was added in post.

Also, these weren't filmed with IMAX but Panavision DXL 8K (RED Weapon).
