I noticed this movie is in 3D in a few places. I never thought it would be. Is it in IMAX 3D anywhere?

I couldn't find too much info about that screen, but when it opened in January 2011, 2001 and Tati's Playtime in 70mm were the initial screenings. So certainly it was a screen developed with 70mm in mind (hence their annual 70mm series in July and August).

Also, these weren't filmed with IMAX but Panavision DXL 8K (RED Weapon).
Skydive was shot on an actual RED(s) 'cause the Panavised RED Weapons are too cumbersome.

Hi, I've added the Paradiso IMAX and the other IMAX Malco opened in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I'm not able to replicate your issue with the clicking the legend hiding all the theatres.

^ it's amazing that there's still only eleven theaters in the US that are laser projection. AMC is suppose to start converting over it's 'IMAX (2K) Digital' systems over to laser in the near future.

Saw 'Mission Impossible 6' yesterday in Dolby Cinema in Georgetown (DC) and I have to say it was the most underwhelming presentations. For starters it's not really a colorful movie, black levels were good, but this is a movie that really doesn't have a wide color range to bolster. 'Rogue Nation' had a tremendous Atmos mix, but here the soundmixers used the ceiling sourced sounds minimally; glad I had 'A-List' cause if I had spent $19 on a ticket I'd be a bit peeved.

The audio mix was inconsistent at my local Lie-Max theater. Some scenes sounded really great, others were underwhelming. I really don't understand why audio quality in IMAX theaters are a mixed bag. Most of the presentations I have seen in an IMAX theater the dialog was flat and the sound effects were underwhelming. I stand by my opinion that Ready Player One had the best sound mix followed by Avengers this year.

Hmm interesting.... I wonder if they did the same for Godzilla 2014 during their halo jump sequence?

While it was already known, the IMAX re-release has been officially announced for 2001. And it will show in 15/70 (kinda a surprise for me) in the four theaters also doing the Dark Knight re-release, which explains the once a day limit on those showings.

Hmmm. I'm known for being a picky sumb*tch but I'm not the only one who noted how awful the 5-perf 65mm segments looked in Dunkirk's 15/70 print, so that doesn't bode well for 2001.

Whenever Nolan used 35mm for IMAX it bypassed analogue methods (35mm IP scanned at 4K/6K and then embiggened digitally and filmed back out to 15-perf 65mm) because there wasn't an optical printer good enough to undertake the work, although for IMAX dailies they can reduce 15-perf down to 4-perf 35mm so I guess they could reverse that if they wanted...but the key is quality so the DMR process was always chosen.

but for the 5-perf stuff in Dunkirk Nolan was confident enough to bypass the DMR and have it enlarged into 15-perf optically (5/65 IP -> 15/65 IN which was cut into the 15/65 A/B roll negative) but it looked damned rough, being surprisingly grainy with dull colour and poor contrast, and 2001 doesn't deserve that fate.

It is mentioned the 15/70 prints of 2001 are the "unrestored" version and completely analogue with no revisionist tricks, while the IMAX laser and digital versions are based off the 4K restoration. Suggests to me that the 15/70 prints will bypass the DMR process, so it could well be a case where IMAX laser is the best version.

Hmm..I'll already be in New York for the 70mm showing of TDK, so maybe I'll catch a 2001 showing too.

That's exactly what I mean, if the 15/70 print has been generated entirely photochemically then there's a good chance it'll look like crap, unless something's changed at IMAX or Fotokem since they did Dunkirk.
