Probably Geoff. Filmmakers and especially exhibitors are desperate to pull audiences back to theatres with so many streaming options cropping up. But, 1:1 is just too stressful for the average viewer and will most likely not catch on.
This is IMAX's fault. If they would have prioritised the 15 perf 1.43:1 aspect ratio rather than hijacking the standard flat format shape and re-labelling it as "IMAX," this day wouldn't have come; probably. And now they made their GT laser system so expensive, that even former 15/70 locations are installing the poor IMAX digital 2K system to cut costs (and sacrificing image quality). IMAX should be prioritising the visual experience but no. Last edited by Riddhi2011; 04-01-2019 at 09:29 PM. |

At the BFI IMAX in London:
"Christopher Nolan's Blockbuster Dark Knight Trilogy returns to the big screen for a special 15/70mm back-to-back screening with recorded Q&A. From 19 – 22 April, the three releases Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012) will screen in succession With a short break between each, screenings begin each day at 14:30 and will be wrapped up around 23:15." ![]() |

At the cinema, back then, a THX certified theatre was vastly better than the other options, in my experience. If that translates to an improved premium theatre in today's market. I don't know. The acoustics and power of a proper Dolby Cinema can be fantastic as well. |

just saw DisneyNature's Penguins on the renovated IMAX screen at AMC Tyson's Corner and the 'laser' image and 12-channel sound were top notch, trailers are still TOO LOUD, but all in all AMC and IMAX laser projection and the upgrades are proving their worth - can't wait to see 'Avengers: Endgame' here!

So I was already pretty bummed when Cinemark chose Auro 11.1 as their immersive sound format because it's the least technically impressive of the systems. But now the trickle of content has stopped. Auro's website lists exactly zero upcoming releases in the format - in fact, their "upcoming releases" page still just lists three movies from 2018.
Hopefully the apparent death of the format prompts Cinemark to switch to Atmos or at least DTS:X so that all those height speakers won't just be there for no reason. |

They don't recline but they are brand new and have a little bounce to them (with cupholders) they look quite sleek - I'll try to post the pic I took of them - I like them
