correct

I'm not meaning to take the piss out of you specifically but I love it when people associate a movie shot in 1.78/1.85 with it being "filmed in IMAX". Shows you how well the marketing does it job, that an AR that has existed for many many decades is now somehow all IMAX's doing

Shame MIBI was finished 2K though, I'd have thought that Sony would've plumped for 4K but then I think even they knew they didn't have a mega-smash on their hands so why waste more money on it.

The irony is they wasted (probably a lot of) money on a 3D conversion by DNEG (which was actually enjoyable) but aren't even releasing it on 3D blu-ray (hence why I say it was wasted)... So they haven't coordinated/optimised either format for this one

Digital IMAX is 1.90:1 and 15/70 IMAX is 1.43:1 correct?

those are the two ratios related to IMAX IIRC

Yep.

Spider-man FFH is expanded for IMAX also unlike the first.

The sound mix (when whoever Zimmer paid to ghostwrite falling asleep on a piano wasn't blurting over it) was the only good thing about that movie.

The audio mix? I think the classic Godzilla roar at the end of the movie was the strongest.

I am not too sure what is going on these days with movies playing on IMAX screens. The audio presentation is just not consistent from movie to movie. I expected Godzilla:KOTM to have the loudest and strongest audio presentation yet it wasn't...compared to that of DP/MIBI. Like I said even movies like Pacific Rim:Uprising didn't have that much of a punch compared to that of say Ready Player One.

I am not sure who's fault it is. The theater's equipment or the studio doing the final mix?

I do feel like smaller non premium screens tend to have better audio presentations then their premium counter parts.

And how close is 1.85 to 1.90? Could people even tell the two apart in a theatre? And 1.44 is rare as hen's teeth at the moment. The point is that people increasingly conflate a 'full screen' experience with dat IMAX juju because it's made removing black bars trendy again (not that it ever really went away, it's shocking how many people still hate letterboxing or windowboxing).

Ironically MIB:I was shot on the Alexa 65 so the .05:1 aspect ratio difference and the lack of licensing fees is really all that keeps them from saying it WAS shot in "IMAX."

and the placement of the roar in the upper left ceiling channels closest to the screen in Atmos was spine-chilling

The sound of Dark Phoenix at the Imax (Laser) was good.

Fine presentation overall. The movie, not super fine, yet I wasn't as bored as with Captain Marvel, especially if I compare the third acts of these pics.

I can't find many details yet, but it seems that Netflix is releasing a short film/long music video from Thom Yorke and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson in select Imax theaters June 26th before streaming the 27th.

Same with anything shot on Alexa 65 really. One dreads to think how expensive those IMAX stickers are.

So is Spider-man the first Sony IMAX switching film? It's their first Screen X I can think of also.

The IMAX Presentation was meh. The sound mix on the other hand, holy shit wayyyyyy too loud/aggressive. Some of the songs played in the movie were just too over powering compared to the audio/sound effects tracks.

It was louder than Endgame though. I would say it was nearly as loud as Ready Player One from last year.

At Imax screenings over here, they play both. The new one at the front, the countdown as the last thing before the feature.
