A movie with NTTD's runtime, each print would run about $400,000. MGM would have to foot the bill for US prints while Universal for International prints.

I will say though that despite the price those prints do pack in the theaters.

The IMAX 15/70 theater at the Minnesota Zoo (sadly now demolished) had a seating capacity of 500 people. The last 15/70 showing there was Dunkirk and when I talked to the manager he told me it was sold out far beyond the opening two weekends and did quite well through the month long engagement and the moment the print was replaced with a digital showing it was a ghost town.

No question. I went to see The Dark Knight at the Ft. Lauderdale Science Museum (300 seats) in 15/70 IMAX opening night. Sold out. Decided to see it two weeks latter a second time - sold out.

But the math proves it's an iffy situation: $20 a ticket + 500 seats = $10,000 per showing. There is a studio/theater split so you need about 70 showings just to break even on the cost of the print. For a smaller IMAX theater - you are approaching 100 showings for a break even on the print cost.

I found out that KOP had a single laser IMAX setup, so only up to 1.90:1

Good points. The good thing is that with several showings a day you can reach that point plus of course the concession sales.

Just out of NTTD at Manchester IMAX.

Can confirm it shifts between all 3 ratios - the 5-perf 65mm stuff is presented 1.90. but holy hell, even the
[Show spoiler] gunbarrel and opening credits
are in full 1.43!

Airbus Imax still isn’t showing anything about No Time to Die, but then again they didn’t say anything about Venom until there was barely a week to go until its release.

I feel like there’s little chance they show Venom without also showing the shot-in-Imax No Time to Die.

I'm in the auditorium right now waiting for Venom to start. I asked to buy tickets for No Time to Die. They said we can't buy it until tomorrow.

I was at Hoffman (Alexandria, VA) last Friday for 'Titane' and 'Venom: There Will Be Carnage' - the latter on the Dolby Cinema screen and I was quite appalled by the fact that the huge water stain that I first noticed during 'In the Heights' was STILL there - literally WTF? that's pathetic that AMC can't pony up the time and effort to get a new screen. On the plus side, good lord, the Atmos mix for V:TWBC was outstanding. Two movies this year that were audible visceral rollercoasters (in Dolby Cinema), and quite frankly really showed off why and how DC can sound to stunning effect, were this and 'Scott Pilgrim' at this location. I've said this in the past, but Hoffman and Georgetown are the best calibrated Dolby Atmos systems in the DMV area for Dolby Cinema; Tyson's Corner suuuuucks

Not sure if this has already been posted already but Dune will be 1.43 aspect ratio at the Airbus IMAX!! I wasn't even aware that it was possible to get 1.43 aspect ratio from digital IMAX cameras. I thought it had to be IMAX film to get 1.43.

How early did you show up to find seats? With there being no assigned seating at first glance, I just want to make sure I show up in time for Dune.

Thanks!

I’ve been to Hoffman Center many times pre Covid, and they never put money into that place. It’s a shame because it’s a beautiful theater. I love the huge auditoriums, where it feels like you’re about 100 feet up!

I prefer the atmosphere in that theater more than AMC Potomac.

I also like the Regal Fairfax Corner, but it also gets no love from Regal.

Yes, I’m shocked at how crappy the Tysons Corner theater is. The last movie I saw there was Black Panther. The seats, space between seats, temperature of auditorium, everything was awful. Haven’t seen been since.

I only showed up 10 minutes before 7. There was only about 100 people at my screening. I think No Time to Die will probably draw more people.

I personally am not a fan of Hoffman, but their Dolby Cinema screen is so much better than Tyson's.

Regal - they are so cheap, they don't upgrade to any of the modern amenities that newer theaters offer. I'd rather go to the nearby Cinemark than Fairfax Corner.

really, Showplace ICON The Boro is ten times better than Tyson's in so many ways, but too many people are too lazy to wander over to the new theater. What's really sad is that their four Dolby Atmos screens are aurally superior to Tyson's Dolby Cinema auditorium by a mile.

The Alexa LF’s native aspect ratio just so happens to be 1.43:1.

To be fair, the auditoriums at Regal Fairfax Towne Center are great. Lot of leg room, recliner seats, new screens and sound system. It’s their lobby, carpets in lobby and corridors and concession area that need major upgrades. They also have no IMAX presentations.

Thanks for the heads up. I will have to wander over to the Showplace Icon sometime.

I just got out of No Time to Die at the Airbus Imax and I'm happy to report that there are portions of the movie that are in the 1.43 ar that fill the entire screen!
