So I guess that means they've removed their 15/70.system, correct? Because my understanding is that they were playing it that way initially.

Yes, I don't know if any multiplexes have done so this year yet, but a bunch of museums IMAXes closed in January in order to renovate to laser. And that includes removing the 15/70 projector if that's the system the location was using before.

It is still showing at the Airbus IMAX until the 25th if anyone wants to see it right now!

You guys know if the National Air & Space Museum will show Batman v. Superman next month? I'd like to make it my first experience with IMAX Laser, especially on that juicy 1.44:1 ratio.

Nothing will be known for sure until tickets go on sale, but I'd assume so.

The Smithsonian said one of the reasons to go with laser was to make it easier to play Hollywood films as well, which I think they will do for their evening shows provided the film is not R rated (I believe it is against the policy of many museums to play R rated films).

Anybody going to the Cineworld IMAX Film Fest?

https://www1.cineworld.co.uk/blog/im...-february-2016

They are showing Jurassic World, The Martian, Gravity and Mad Max: Fury Road for one day only, only £3 a ticket. I booked to go to the Sheffield location where each film is being shown for the first time in the U.K in glorious laser projection!

Not going. Missed opportunity for Interstellar and Star Wars.

Good news for Aussie fans - the Sydney IMAX, the largest screen in the world, is confirmed to be showing BvS in 70mm IMAX film in 2D - like TDK/R and Interstellar.....

Now let's hope there will be more theatres showing it in the format than there were for Star Wars.....and yay for 2D too!

Yes! I thought the paltry 15/70 rollout for Star Wars was the death throes of the format, but it wouldn't surprise me if Snyder has insisted on there being genuine large format film presentations at the IMAXes that can handle it. The BFI in London had better nab one of these!

For TFA it was the question of Disney forcing 70mm locations that had a digital projector also installed to play the digital 3D version. We'll just have to wait and see what WB do for BvS as the Sydney IMAX also had a 70mm print of TFA.

Of course if a location has laser, they will play it in digital and that's not too much of a problem as the laser projectors can do the full 1.43:1 ratio.

Also it's great that WB are making 2D 15/70mm prints as opposed to 3D ones. Also to note, not sure if it was mentioned here, WB have been getting in touch with theatres in the US that did the Hateful Eight in 70mm about playing BvS in the format, much like Nolan did with Interstellar.

Back to 15/70, as IMAX's CMO put it on Twitter a couple of weeks back - "Snyder's a fan, and Nolan s exec producing so fingers crossed..." And I also find it curious that the new marketing materials just refer to EXPERIENCE IT IN IMAX instead of IMAX 3D now.

Sure, Laser is the replacement but seeing as there's a grand total of two (I think) IMAX venues in the UK with laser, neither of which are on 1.43 screens anyway, and the filmmakers are such fans of film you can see why I'm getting more optimistic about the prospect of being able to catch it at the BFI in all its 15/70 1.43 glory (which did indeed get saddled with a pathetic 2K 3D digital version of TFA by 'virtue' of its digital install).

Yeah, JJ's a film fan too but there's no way he had enough clout to insist on 15/70 being the default IMAX presentation for TFA. But Snyder and Nolan, on the other hand...

Yeah, I'm aware of the Laser situation here in the UK... So I'mm keeping my fingers crossed for BFI too. Especially if it's 2D.....

You seriously think Snyder has more clout than JJ Abrams?

Not necessarily but Nolan is indeed exec producing the film and WB have far more experience with doing 15/70 IMAX releases.

Within their respective spheres on these movies and their relationships to the higher-ups, you bet I do. JJ can waffle on about film and do his IMAX promo video like a good little boy but even he clearly couldn't override Disney's naked intent to claim as much of dat $$$ as possible by insisting that venues with digital IMAX show the digital 3D version of TFA rather than a 15/70 print. Hell, if BvS just doubles up on TFA's print run from 20 to 40 that'd be a lovely bonus. And even if I'm talking out of my blowhole, BvS still has that Nolan-sized ace in the hole, as antovolk has just reiterated (note that I said "Snyder and Nolan" above)...

Anyhoo, I'll be in London visiting family in the first week of April so if the BFI do get a 15/70 print (won't that be something, eh Pete? ) then I'll be all over it.
