You're right. Most of the real IMAX theaters near me have already upgraded. I hope eveyone else can get laser ASAP!

I hope the BFI upgrades soon. But mega happy at the same time they're getting 2D 15/70 of BvS!

Tix go on sale 9am on Tuesday @Geoff D. I might pop down there myself actually - it opens at 9 - to get tickets to avoid risk of website issues.

You all mentioning that BvS will be shown in 70mm IMAX got me to look at the nearby IMAX theater in Branson, MO where I have gone to see Interstellar and Star Wars in that format, but I just found out that they made a press release that they will have fully converted over to IMAX Laser by the middle of March! I'm a bit bummed out that it's the end of an era for that theater since they've been to go-to for IMAX films for years, but I still greatly look forward to seeing a film on the IMAX laser format.

On a related note, I'm very surprised that a place like Branson would get a IMAX laser projector...I mean they mostly showed documentaries at the theater for the majority of the year, with only the occasional feature film when it happened to be on IMAX 70mm because they only had the film projector. The lines have been out the door for the releases of Interstellar and Star Wars though so I hope it goes well for them because it's a great little theater.

Well, I don't need to see it opening night or anything so I can let the initial rush die down and see what's shaking a few hours later. I remember the last time I heard about 'IMAX ticket sales being broken' for Prometheus, I went online and got the exact seat I wanted on the day I wanted. I know that ain't BvS, but still, I think I'll be okay for the first week of April.

I'm aiming for first midnight show so yeah...

BTW, seems like only 10 15/70mm IMAX prints were made. 8 for the US, 2 international (London and Sydney). Even less that SW:TFA. Looks like the smallest 15/70 release....

Well, some of the sites which played Force Awakens on 15/70 have since converted to laser, so not surprised the list is even smaller now. BTW, do you have the 8 U.S. locations?

Indeed, I was some way short of my claim of Snyder's clout re: 15/70. But I got 15/70 at the cinema I wanted for BvS so yay me anyway!

IMAX Sydney is meant to be on there, also interesting about Lincoln Sq - didn't they remove 70mm?

Laser locations also on the list - looks like the US ones will be playing it in just 2D? IMAX Melbourne and Event Queen st. in NZ are missing off the list but they have confirmed to show it in laser.

I checked about Lincoln Square, yes they removed 70mm in anticipation of going laser (which has since been delayed multiple times), but apparently are going to reinstall their projector if possible. BTW, still don't have show times listed for there, whereas they are up for the other three NYC IMAXes, so IMAX/AMC might be waiting in case there are any technical issues with reinstalling the film projector.

Fantastic!

UK peeps - I'm also hearing from someone who spoke with Odeon Manchester Printworks that they're negotiating to get a print, and the Science Museum's team are also working on getting a print too.

Would still recommend booking BFI if those aren't confirmed by Monday night.

More than likely. The Lincoln Square put in the smaller SR unit. But they likely just put in one projector so this may be why there is no 3D.

WB aren't making any 3D 70mm prints for this.

That's cool. But to reinstall a big GT unit would be a big job. Adding a SR unit is simply and easy.

Or perhaps they didn't get rid of the GT system all along.

Yeah I got that - I'm just saying that's the reason for no 3D, not what projection Lincoln Sq install.

Well, according to my local IMAX theater, BvS will have 25 minutes of IMAX footage.

Yeah, apparently a movie theater verified that length as well. Too bad they edited it out. Someone in NeoGAF did posted the original quote before the website changed it.

25 minutes isn't too bad. That's around the same length as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and The Dark Knight.

If it's used as effectively as on Ghost Protocol then it will make a HUGE impact. I still get chills thinking of the moment when the camera flies over the top of the Burj and the mattes slink away to reveal that vertiginous IMAX frame. Simply awesome.

(That's something which Nolan doesn't quite get with IMAX IMO, the way that he cuts back and forth between formats with little rhyme or reason whereas other directors have more of a sense of showmanship when it comes to how they use it.)
