The one in Berlin at Potsdamer Platz is 1.43, not 1.9! I watched Civil War there yesterday in laser 3D. The IMAX sequence was absolutely stunning! Totally awe-inspiring, there was absolute silence in the audience during these few minutes!

The """""IMAX""""" sequence in Civil War was neither filmed at nor distributed at 1.43, as confirmed by IMAX's facebook. Your eyes are playing tricks on you man.

Okay, my mistake then, I assume it didn't fill the full screen then though since the actual sequence is in 1.9?

Of course Civil War was not in 1.43, but the Berlin IMAX has a 1.43 screen. The IMAX sequence was in 1.9 and looked way better than the 2.35 footage.

Is the 2.35 footage however better looking than in a digital imax? also how was the 3d?

I don't know about the new Alexa IMAX camera, but 15/70 footage in IMAX Digital still looked great (not as nice as true 15/70 print footage I saw in Catching Fire, Into Darkness, MI4, etc, but still). I saw Dark Knight Rises, Batman v Superman, and Interstellar in IMAX Digital and the 15/70 footage in the first two looked way better than in a regular digital theater, also saw Interstellar in 5/70 and the IMAX footage was great in both formats there.
In those films, the 2.35 footage looked a tiny bit better in digital IMAX, but not a big difference.

Yeah, never seen a film in IMAX laser vs IMAX digital as isn't a laser IMAX in my area.

The only IMAX laser film I've seen is Force Awakens, which did look nice in its 2.35 scene and outstanding in its all too brief native IMAX sequence.

Why isn't ther much talk about Dolby Cinema? Even filmmakers have been saying it's the way the films were intended to look, from Faverau to Snyder. It's way better than IMAX laser, from personal experience.

So do you guys think that 1.43 AR Imax is on it's way out? That was the whole reason I ever went to see any IMAX movie. I am disappointed that Civil War is not in 1.43, but I bought my tickets before I knew that.

There's only a small handful of theaters it's currently installed in.
There's an AMC Prime screen about 45 minutes from me, but it's really of annoying how they never seem to play a movie longer than a week there. Usually, opening weekend, the theater is booked full, and the next week they've moved on to some piece of shit movie like The Huntsman. Come on AMC

edit: looks like they ditched The Hunstman now too. Alas, I've already seen The Jungle Book in IMAX Laser (and didn't care enough for it to watch it again).

Well, certainly Nolan will continue shooting 1.43, some IMAX docs will, and we know the Alexa camera can do that format (really hope Sully does, but sounds as if 1.9 is more likely again on that). And previously film based 1.43 theaters will stay in that format when converting to laser, so I imagine 1.43 will continue, it just won't be common (as it was in the last years of IMAX film projection when digital became their vast majority of screens).

The Alexa currently can't do 1.43. I should rephrase, it can, in the same way any camera can, with an enormous horizontal crop, but IMAX won't do that.

But the ASC said they will? Hopefully the ASC article for Civil War (if there is one, they missed out on Winter Soldier ) will shed some light on the situation.

The cropping of sides to 1.9 is what they were referring to I assume.

why Snyder is promoting Dolby Cinema when there are select scenes shot and projected in full frame IMAX is just backasswards

I saw this in both DC and IMAX-laser, the latter was the best it looked and sounded. (sorry Snyder).

Well, it was shot in real IMAX, so it worked for that format. Other than that, Dolby is the way to go.
