Why is AMC showing Ms. Peregrine in its Dolby Cinema instead of Deepwater Horizon? Peregrine is in Atmos only, whereas Deepwater is in Atmos and Vision.

Probably a business decision. Tracking (which granted isn't always right) has Peregrine getting #1 for the weekend, and particularly if a theater also has an IMAX screen which will have to be showing Deepwater Horizon, they probably figure it is better to split their large format business between the two films rather than give Deepwater Horizon everything.

It's sort of the apex of IMAX digital's hilarity. Shot with the Alexa 65 with expanding ratios but not getting the "shot in IMAX" designation cause.... contracts or something. |

I've noticed it's more of a problem at LieMax theaters than it is purpose built ones. The last handful of times I've been to a real IMAX the sound levels have ranged from just right to too quiet. It's kind of comical watching a movie on a 60x80 screen and having the volume at anything other than the higher end.

Are the overhead sounds / sound panning in an IMAX noticeable considering the side and rear speakers seem to be on the ceiling - wall boundary even after upgrade?

it was not only louder but the side and rear channels seemed more active with sound in the NYC 'outdoor' scenes', cars, horns, camera flashing, voices - ceiling sourced sounds were more prevalent and you could tell where the sound was coming from whether it was the channels closer to the screens or the speakers more to the back. The side channel speakers unlike the corner rear speakers aren't as close to the ceiling but more centered on the wall. As to the volume spiked to 11 - the IMAX 'folk' seem to have calibrated both Lockheed and the Airbus screens to acceptable levels; unlike say AMC Tysons Corner's IMAX-digital system that is at ear bleed levels.

Malick's Voyage of Time is only going to be in "select" IMAX theaters this weekend, and looking at the theater list IMAX has put out (which granted they say is subject to change and add additional theaters to), it might be very limited with just 15 U.S. sites currently listed.

Was alright, some scenes looked better than others. Anything that had plenty of light looked best and the colours were vivid. When the rig explodes it was so bright it illuminated the auditorium, like someone had switched the lights on.
