All of this copy protection BS is for the birds. Constant firmware updates. Never-ending stories of people having HDMI handshake problems between gear. Ridiculously slow load times while the disc "phones home" (which is also web content loading, another gripe).

Yet, new movies are available from the dark web (in glorious HD) as much as a MONTH before they are available on disc.

Copy protection doesn't slow piracy down one single bit. The only thing copy protection does is inconvenience honest movie lovers that spend their hard earned cash on the little shiny discs. And then, all too often, we have to endure forced COMMERCIALS before we can watch the movie we paid for.

It sucks sometimes. I remember the early days of BD when there were similar issues. Some folks shut the wifi off to their players and still wouldn't play half the BD's they'd spent good money for. There were some growing pains back in those days.

Sure, pirating has some convenience but nothing will ever beat owning the physical media...legally.

Have you tried wiping disc with microfiber cloth? Worked on my la la Land disc when it was freezing on my oppo.

Agreed 100%. Hollywood and the home video industry doesn't know the first thing about being consumer-friendly.

If they spent more time worrying about delivering the best product to us, with the least amount of hassle and issues, instead of obsessing over something they have little to no control over, we would all be better off, including them. Instead I have to import my 3D films from the UK and if my 3D TV breaks my 3D collection is unviewable; meanwhile we have to deal with firmware issues and disc replacement programs and government warnings on all our discs accusing us of being eeeevil pirates that are decimating the industry.

Ah yes, that disc. Well I have the 5 disc set which I'm also keeping, so I'm good.

Just finished watching it and the PQ is amazing, but even better is the sound. This has to be the best remix in ATMOS that I have heard yet. It bests even some native ATMOS discs I have. I watched John Wick 2 just before and the sound in Blade Runner seemed way superior. Lots of activity from all speakers.

In the unlikely event anyone missed it, I added the youtube video "BLADE RUNNER 2049 - '2048: Nowhere To Run' Prequel Short Film (2017) Dave Bautista Sci-Fi Movie HD" to the lead post.

Got paid today and decided to click on Amazon and order this since I've basically given up on trying to find this in store around here. There's only third party sellers with it in stock and the cheapest seller is $60, I guess that's what I get for being averse to ordering online...

Did you check Best Buy? Have to go to the actual store ask them to check inventory. Could be one in the back. If they don't, then maybe a Best Buy across town has one. They should be able to see it in their inventory (not the website we can access).

My local music/movies/games chain, The Exchange, got one per store. Their price is $32.

The closest Best Buy to me is an hour away and I checked one when I was out last Saturday for a family birthday dinner and no such luck.

Agreed, a very big for the Atmos track. Looked really good on my Sony VW600.

Maybe I'm missing something but with all the grumbling over the discs accompanying the US 4k, why aren't people here opting for the UK release; which looks like it will address all our concerns....have I made some sort of bad miscalculation?

I would wait until checking out what might be in Greenville before paying 60 bucks. I think MSRP is $45, so even if you found it at a retailer selling full MSRP you'd save 15 bucks. It will be available at Best Buy eventually, just might take a couple more weeks.

$60??, you can get it off Ebay cheaper. If you want used and no DC, around $30. New, probably $35-40 at the most. Not my listings.

some guys listing:

or new from Blowitout, which is Deep Discount DVD

I posted this elsewhere and thought it worth posting here also

Wow - just wow

Sat and watched this last night and as its my favourite movie (yes, I know I'm late to the party, but had just watched it on Blu-ray a few weeks previous)
As mind-blowingly good as the picture is (caveat of - in some shots it's not quite as good, but this is to be expected with the differing film stock used etc, alongside a nice healthy amount of grain too which was good to see) it was, however, the audio that took my breath away.
The new Atmos mix is simply astonishing, i can think of no other word for it!
Not even so much in obvious spinners flying overhead either (and there's a nice amount of that going on) but just the simple separation of sounds and placement within the room.
Thunder rumbling above was from above. Crowd noises and sounds come from all round you in the most realistic way I've ever heard.
Elements of sound that were buried in the previous mixes are given proper space, I was hearing things I've not picked out before and I have seen this film a LOT of times, both at home and in the cinema.

Buy this UHD for the amazing picture by all means, but get yourself an Atmos setup for the love of god! You need to experience quite how good this Atmos soundtrack is!!!
Hyperbole this is not.

Thanks for the clarification. Perhaps I never noticed it.
This is why this is one of those films that bear repeated viewings. Even after all of these years, there's still more to discover, and we can perhaps thank the UHD format for some of them, eh?

What happened with supplements discs here has me wondering what Warner is going to do on the The Dark Knight, TDKR and Interstellar UHD releases.

Fair question but as those movies weren't adorned with loads of extras discs each then it should be an easier proposition for Warners to work out in that respect, it was just one bonus disc each IIRC. (With a bonus bonus disc exclusively for the UCE Dark Knight trilogy set) Will they do a Goodfellas/Watchmen/Barry Trotter and include the bonus disc, or will they do a Pacific Rim/Man of Steel and leave out the bonus platter?

Could go either way but if Nolan is as involved with these releases as people say he is then hopefully their respective extras discs will be included.
