Yep. My philosophy is: add all the new tracks you want... as long as the original is included, as well.

With the color destruction which is the final cut I actually thought that the Atmos was a step up.

If you have a full Atmos room the thunder , rain, conversations of people walking by in the city of in hallways is pretty phenomenal IMO. I can understand not having the original mix if you liked it but to me the fact that TFC has no red or blue at all in the entire film ,I'd rather have had the original color timing.

You know what those Blade Runner Synesthetes say, "Vertically-localized sound sources and the red-magenta spectrum just don't mix."

As someone who actually prefers remixed surround tracks over the original mono/stereo audio (for oldies), I still 100% agree with this.

The OG audio should always be present.

You sir are the sort of revisionist I can be friends with

Of course, trying to be a purist when it comes to Blade Runner is a complete cluster, as what the heck is supposed to be the right version to watch? lol

I'm thinking of muxing the 2007 mix with the 4K disc to get the best of both worlds with this one.

Not to dredge up talk of it again, but how much better is the color timing on this compared to the Bluray? Is it more theatrically faithful? It looks a lot less green on Caps-a-holic but I heard screengrabs on there aren't perfect for 4k content so I'm not sure.

In regards to audio I simply plan to mux in the 2007 audio so I'm covered there!

Agreed. Let's hope this philosophy always carries over to including the theatrical cut on the disc as well.

We don't get much rain in Southern CA, but when we do this is my perfect rainy day movie, along with BR 2049. It's gonna be a BR day.

I'm 100% about that as well. Blade Runner in particular would include every cut in an ideal release, each with its own original audio track.

It’s similar to the blu-ray but the HDR is a real highlight. I love the FC timing and don’t think it’s too green or teal at all, though.

The Blu-ray is teal AF and has very crushed blacks, the UHD renders out less of a tealy look and brings out more shadow detail. Is naice.

Yeah I think it’s mainly that the blu didn’t do the FC color timing justice.

Watched this again last night, I dunno if it's just the Panasonic 820 player or what but I found the encoding to be quite tolerable. Don't get me wrong, it's still badly compromised (IMO) and certain moments remain quite terribad for compression but in the main I could just kinda forget about it. And this with the Panny's HDR Optimiser OFF so it wasn't doing any of its own tone mapping to it, this is purely how the Panny's regular decoding is interpreting the image.

One of the reasons why I love rewatching favourite movies is that I genuinely find something new in them every time, and this time I found a doozy: I've seen this movie 50 times (minimum) and I never noticed before that Rachael is in the background behind Deck for the entire time in the bit when he buys the bottle of booze from the eye-patch lady. She's out of focus to be sure but it's definitely her as the big hair and even bigger coat are unmistakable - Gaff even walks right past her when he taps Deck on the shoulder! And when Deck turns to leave you can see that Rachael is staring straight at him. Fair do's if this is there in IMDB's trivia list or whatever, I'm just saying that it's new to me and I actually said "whaaaaaaaAAAAAAATTTTTT???" out loud when I realised what I was looking at.

(Off the back of the reduced compression nastiness I had a look at several other suspect 4K discs like Apollo 13 and ID4 on the Panny and they are similarly mollified, not 'fixed' but definitely far more tolerable for the encoding. Even StudioCanal's The Fog didn't seem as bad as it was though the bit at the end with the cross is still laughably awful. SPR is still fubar however.)

For fear of going off topic, I'll just say this is great news. I've ordered the 820, and am expecting it this week. I've had issues with both The Fog and Blade Runner (my projector and it's ability to output reliable HDR are probably my biggest issues), so hoping I'll be a happy camper at the weekend re-watching both.

Are you no longer using your OPPO? Is the Panny better as of now?

Same here, in fact, since obviously you aren't going to get a whole lot more out of the story after 20 times seeing it, those details are what makes it rewatchable IMO. BR is one with lots. Nice find .

The OPPO is still there for sure, its file playback murders the Panny and the DV output (should I need to use it from here on out, check the Superman thread for more on that) also has problems on the Panny because it's clipping DV highlights while the OPPO's DV does not. The aspect ratio control is also a godsend on the OPPO when dealing with stuff I've got to zoom in, like old non-anamorphic widescreen DVDs. The Panny has precisely nothing in that regard.

But 4K playback certainly seems to be a bit 'cleaner' than the OPPO for sure. There are no differences in HDR10 dynamic range itself when everything is equal of course, but for titles that have extreme >2000 nit highlights then the Panny's HDR Optimiser makes it a more well-rounded proposition. The Optimiser introduces a slight touch of banding however, so it's swings and roundabouts.

I don't know why Warner Bros. didn't release such an important title like Blade Runner on a 3 layer BD100, this would have given the video and its compression plenty of space (bitrate) to "breathe" and making it look clean and artifact free without resorting to any kind of filtering and let priests try to do miracles and not video compressionists.

I had not seen this movie in probably over 20 years. To be honest, I’m not sure I ever watched it all the way through without falling asleep. To me it was the movie equivalent of NyQuil, but after watching, and enjoying BR2049, I thought I would give this one another try.
Unpopular opinion coming up!!! (Please don’t beat me up too badly)

I’m not sure how stoned one needs to be to enjoy this movie, but being totally sober certainly didn’t work for me. What a bizarre movie! I’m sorry, but I honestly don’t understand how so many of you seem to consider this a classic.
All I can say is that I’m sure glad it was on the movie channel, and that I didn’t waste my money on it (although I did waste 2hours of my time).
Sorry guys.
Let the beatings begin......
