Hah! I first saw it in monochrome and mono audio via a Philips 2000 VCR, a bad pirate tape and a very small and ancient TV in 1983 and I was STILL amazed and infatuated with it!

It's such a respectful remix that most people don't even realise it, which is how such things should be done.
I'm wondering if it might be possible some of those extra sound effects were on the 70MM mix.

Up until TFC I believe the 35MM version was the audio master used.

It doesn't change the fact that it was designed for 5.1. I saw it in 5.1 (multiple times) and I'd like to have as close a representation of that original version as I can get.

We're talking about inherently creative decisions (defining placement of a soundtrack across an entire physical dimension) and who gets to make them.

You could argue that a pan-and-scan version doesn't matter because "we're not talking about different shots".

My main concern is that the original mix is available on the disc, whether that's as a discrete track or as a fully-transparent downmix. Beyond that, I'd certainly prefer that any other sound options are creator-approved, but it isn't the end of the world for me if I can just easily ignore anything on the disc that isn't.

I am seriously just disgusted by this newest paste on HDR logo that infects the boxart. WHY god WHY? Why can't you just put a ****ing sticker on there like they were doing?

It's crazy. Every single boxart is going to have that ridiculous logo pasted on it now.

I swear to god I hate the decisions these people make.

The bluray is mediocre with a terrible bitrate. I know I know it looks okay but they can do MUCH better. The bluray we have now is soft as hell if you ask me.

You have that. On the previous Blu-ray.

The original color timing for TFC is what is on there right now. And that color timing looks fantastic to my eyes.

You can have your ugly and gross 80s red tint on the old versions on bluray.

The fact that the old encode was a terrible 15Mbps is what is going to make it look better. This disc is heavily portrayed as being awesome because back in the day people were still amazed by HD.

The disc is mediocre, soft, and has problems with a lot of little things. Solid encode will do wonders for this film.

It doesn't bother me and it will bug few, but it is the wrong decision to violate the artwork.

What's that have to do with anything? The benefit of this format is being able to get that much closer to the intent. I'm not going to sync up the Blu-ray so I can listen to it while I watch the UHD.

Would you say the same if Blade Runner had been shot on Super 35 and this was an open matte "full screen" version? Again, nothing is missing, but what you get hardly reflects the original creative decisions, does it?

I just pre-ordered this on Amazon and it's already given me a September 7th delivery day despite the September 5th release. I think this may be selling much quicker than Amazon anticipated.
Now all I'm wishing for is a Best Buy Steelbook exclusive. I'll cancel my Amazon order the minute this would show up.

The archival versions aren't red tinted on the BD. You're thinking of the atrocious original DVD release of the DC. Now that is one red transfer!

The 2K master used for those versions on the BD has excellent colour timing.

Are discs 3+4 confirmed to be *BDs* and not just re-hashes of 2+4 (the supplemental DVDs) from the original 5-disc set? I am cautious because the absence of "All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cuts" (from disc 5) has re-use indications.

Even with this movie coming out, not everyone can be happy, it seems. Always a nitpick. Always nitpicking!

Yeah, even more shades of teal.

I'd much rather see the color restored to how it looked before it was cool to be teal. I hate the color timing of The Final Cut.

There's a fan release out there of the theatrical cut custom matched to the color timing of the laserdisc, and it's gorgeous. The software used matches the current blu-ray frame by frame to the coloring of the laserdisc and the results are gorgeous. I'm not saying the laserdisc was 100% accurate either, but it sure looked nicer to me than the teal.

Very disappointed that the theatrical versions aren't included. Close Encounters is getting a new remaster and all 3 versions of the film in the same UHD quality. This seems like a weak release to cash in on the sequel.

George Lucas only wanted us to see the special editions of the original trilogy on blu-ray. That doesn't mean that's what I will watch though. I want to see the version I fell in love with in the first place. Not the version the filmmaker currently wants me to see, until he changes his mind again.

Four discs, eh? I wonder if the extras on that second bonus disc will be in HD?

It's funny how Warners have split up the extras again (having previously compiled them on to one disc with the 30th Anniversary Edition), but if Dangerous Days really is HD this time, I guess they gotta free up space.

Seeing as the sound mixers placed the sounds to sound like objects were directly overhead and were limited by the tech of the time your comparison is invalid.
