Because Gaff is his (and I think you used this word) handler. Gaff knows that Deckard is a replicant before they 'meet' at the noodle shop, knows specifics about the content of his implanted memories, knows what model Deckard is and his build intent (Brade Runnah).

Gaff seems to enjoy taunting Deckard, from the unicorn origami to the "You've done a man's job, sir!" line. Deckard seems pleased when he finds the origami there at the end, but it's not so much a "gift from a friend" pleased as it is an "I get it now" satisfaction.

Excellent points all, and duly noted. I don't go online to argue with people and I'm glad we can all enjoy the movie with our own interpretations. Thanks for your thoughts and input though. I really enjoy point/counterpoint discussions like these. Especially when they remain civil (as this one is).

Art is certainly subjective, and that's ok with me.

Watched this for the 2nd time last night ever and for the first time on my new 4k player. The movie looks like it was shot yesterday.

As for the movie, I really like it, but I found myself struggling to root for Deckard after he:
[Show spoiler] shoots Joanne Cassidy's character in the back, killing her. Especially the way its shot... Just seeing her lifeless body laying there.
I find that scene vey jarring.

I wonder if anyone else feels that way.

It seems you're starting to understand the movie.

Like I said, this was only the 2nd time I had seen it... The first time was on the horrible dvd with the snapper case... So, it was like watching it for the first time.

This looked like I had never seen the film before. It was an awesome upgrade/experience.

I've always been a bit lukewarm on BR. I appreciate the production elements for its time, but the story has never really grabbed me and the pacing can feel a bit tedious (and I usually love slow burn sci-fi). BR 2049 was easily my favorite of last year and one of my top in recent memory.

Anyways, I'm going next week to a double feature of the two at Seattle's Cinerama. They will be showing the 4K Final Cut version followed by 2049. Should be a blast. Just thought I would throw that out there in case anyone on this board was in the PNW and may want to see this projected on a huge screen in pristine condition.

Agreed. Much prefer the sequel, although I think even that gets a bit overhyped (as much as I like it, and I really do).

Im the opposite. The original cannot be beaten by ANY film for me - not for the last 20 years or so. The sequel is fantastic and I am not sure it could have been better but....I am starting to think it is a little (only a little!) overhyped. Its great but it cannot stand up to the original....but nothing does for me.

I respect Blade Runner, but it's hard for me to really love it. There are a few movies throughout history I feel this way about, that are generally regarded as classics or masterpieces but that I simply can't embrace for one reason or another. Oh well.
