He was okay.

...FACT.

Now can we talk about something a little less sensitive?

...like the Middle East peace process.

2049 is a bloated borefest to me but is this worth getting if you’re a Ridley Scott buff?

IMHO the two films cannot be compared. While I wouldn't say that 2049 is terrible in any way, it's an amateurish sequel lacking all of the harmonic and senseful tone of the original film. Not to mention how Blade Runner is a magnificent portrait of lacking humanity - whereas 2049 by comparison almost becomes self spoof.

With all of that said, I think that Blade Runner may be a bit difficult for some new viewers to fully appreciate. Looking at the production itself, it becomes clear that it was a big mess for the entire film crew and presumably no one really had an idea what it would all sum up to. By giving it some time, accepting the somewhat slow tempo and partially strange script, most people will probably see the qualities in the film despite it not being for all tastes.

The UHD-BD is not without its flaws but is easily the best the film has ever looked. Only thing I really miss out from the old Blu-Ray is the soundtrack, as they changed some effects in the Atmos mix.

Not just an improvement in terms of UHD's capabilities but also better graded losing the excessive teal tone of the Final Cut previously.

Really even on original release I think Blade Runner had the same issue many likely have with it today, the expectation was for an action thriller and what they got was an arty atmospheric drama. In that respect 2049 probably did come closer to meeting those expectations as it has a good deal more of that element to it.

My main criticism of 2049 would be that I don't think it manages to link together K's story and Deckard's perfectly. Ford was a very pleasant surprise performance wise but I found the K/Joi story more interesting.

Well, I've seen Blade Runner about fifteen times but will likely never watch the overrated sequel a third time. Goes for almost any Denis Villeneuve movies.

I have seen BR about 15 times in theaters mostly in 70mm. Countless times at home. My second all time favorite movie right behind Lawrence of Arabia.

I made it half way through BR 2049 and then ejected the disc. What a shit movie that was.

I'm glad I have a longer attention span. The movie, while not perfect just like the original, was quite atmospheric just like Lawrence of Arabia. The setting was a character as much as any human or replicant character.

It wasn't my attention span . . . it was my tolerance for watching a bad movie. It finally gave out.

You liked it - good for you.

I loved 2049. I think it might be the only belated sequel to a popular film or series that wasn't disappointing in any way. I happily watch it after the original now every time.

I can't imagine watching Blade Runner without 2049. It's a modern day classic.

My one disappointment with 2049 that's stuck with me since sitting in a woefully empty theatre (other than Deckard's wardrobe looking like your dad at the gym) is the soundtrack. It's a real shame Vangelis didn't return to score 2049 when his soundtrack for the original film is so distinctive and iconic, and after composing new music for the 25th anniversary gave us a taste of what could have been.
