A cookie for whoever elaborates on why 2049 is "better"...

I agree. But I also think Doctor Sleep deserves to be in that category.

I've heard plenty of people that like 2049 better. I've heard some people find Blade Runner boring or not much to it. People have their opinions. Not everyone is going to think Blade Runner is superior. I think it is but others don't. That's why we all have opinions.

I've got this little theory: the people that hated 2049 do so because it wasn't another BR. They expected the same thing, continued after the end of the first film, nothing in the world changed.

But it's a new film, which is based of a distant past, where many things had changed in that world since the first film.

And our real world has changed a lot (including the time-frame of the original film being already upon us and things not looking as they were predicted in the first film).

Did you really expect DV to just say "Well, I have my own visions, but I have to make this AS IF it were Ridley Scott just taking over from where he left off"?

You went into the theater with the wrong frame of mind -- of course you weren't going to like it. You probably hated it when all the folk singers went electric too.

Both films reflect the concerns of when they were made. It's a perfect continuation aesthetically if not as a whole.

Well, this game of Brade Runnah Bingo™ is hotting up nicely. We've had the old stalwart of Deck-a-rep and now we're onto 2019 vs 2049, all we need is dvdmike saying that the Workprint is the best version and I'm ready to yell 'HOUSE!'.

There's only one bad thing about 2049 from what I recall - that awful pop song over the credits. Its on the soundtrack CD set too. So out of place that its incredible to me that it got included!

It’s not in the credits. Only on the soundtrack.

I have always liked that white-to-black gradient cover used for the absolutely earliest home video releases. Not the best picture quality though.

I thought Doctor Sleep was a good, solid sequel to an all-time classic film, but not a great movie in its own right.

...BR2049 was special all by itself imo.

Mad Max: Fury Road would count, I imagine. It surpasses The Road Warrior IMO, which is my second favorite of the series.

I think the soundtrack sounded best on 8-Track.

Agree to disagree.

What impressed me the most about Doctor Sleep was that the first two-thirds of the movie pretty much was it's own thing with it's world building, then in the third act managed to move back around to Kubrick territory and pay respectful homage to his version of the story as well as King's.

are you sure you're (and some others) not just letting some sort of blind Villeneuve hate not let you see the actual film? (which, BTW, was basically largely planned by Ridley Scott anyway, I think I even read him saying somewhere that it he was responsible for the bulk core of 2049 and it was sort of his thing).

I didn't get that feeling at all.
Not to mention since Ridley Scott was majorly involved in the basic story and concept for 2049 it seems nearly impossible to believe.
