Nothing wrong with liking a soundbar if that's what you want...I would get one if it was just a small room to replace tv speakers, but that's where it ends for me.

Exactly. I have fully experienced powerful immersive sound with ear piercing bass from dual SVS cylinders reaching all the way down to 12 Hz with room gain. This was in my second floor larger room. Wife was not happy to see too many speakers as they were occupying space and moreso she hated bass as she has tinnitus.

So I had no other choice but to downsize to a 7.1.4 soundbar which is my living room within a 12 X 12 ft confined space. I had never heard a soundbar properly prior to purchasing my first one and had the same prejudice like that others and I was proven wrong. It offered similar level of immersion but the biggest issue is that missing ultra low bass which the tiny sub can't reproduce as they are neutered at 29 Hz. If you don't mind losing that deep bass then a 7.1.4 or a 5.1.4 soundbar should easily fit the bill as long as your room layout and size are right and forgiving

I have been to a number of gear demos over the years, including CEDIA. You could not pay me to go with a soundbar for most any reason. I would rather downsize my speakers and subs a bit if I absolutely had to... like to bookshelves and a 10 inch sealed sub instead of my current large Triad Gold LCR studio monitors and Monolith THX 15 inch ported sub.

Compromise for compromise sake is just throwing money down the toilet.

This is the problem. Your home is the correct environment to judge. These are not going to sound impressive in expos. If you are in the UK living in overpriced tiny houses you will feel our pain lol.

CEDIA was the only "expo." I've been to more controlled events as well that take greater care of the listening space. There are carefully designed sound rooms at CEDIA too. Triad and JBL (both partnered with Trinnov) were but two manufacturers that set them up well.

You ought to try something like SVS Prime Satellite mini bookshelves and a small sub with a slim Marantz receiver. Soundbars should be only seen as a last resort.

I hope you read my post where I mentioned no other choice. I had to put my family first as the last resort...

I don't believe most people who say they couldn't place speaker systems in their TV areas. If I can do it in my little bedroom, I'm sure they can find room, most of the time. Would be happy to be proven wrong by photos.

We can but what if your partner is hell bent against separates? Visit the UK forums you will be many have gone the soundbar route from separates not because of they want to but because they had to.

Currently chatting to Charles de Lauzirika on Twitter about how annoying it is when folks perpetuate the myth that the unicorn dream sequence was just a Legend outtake. Sometimes Twitter can be a good thing!

Makes up for the time I indirectly insulted Drew Struzan, lolcry.

"And I'm looking for a region free 4K bluray player."

4K DISCS are region free in any 4K player, but 4K players themselves are NOT region free, unless you buy a custom modified player that can play any region. (They're clunky to use, though, because they don't automatically default to the correct region--you have punch in a bunch of double-secret probation codes to change the default region. I have one of these set for Region B because I buy a lot of discs from Europe that aren't available here in the U.S.)

Just grabbed this set via Amazon and it seems to be missing the various cuts disc. Have other folks had that same issue? Also, the 4 discs that were in the case were stacked on top of one another--that seems weird, right? So on the left side was disc 4 and disc 2; while on the right side was the Final Cut BD with the 4K disk on top of it. Just an odd set up all together. The 4K disc looks great, but man those menus remind me so much of those earlier BD and HD-DVD days with the click noise scrolling. Just feels cheap.

The 30th Anniversary release had three BD discs. The 4K edition three of the discs from the 2007 (or so) release. Yes it's strange.

Weird--I swear I read a review saying that the US/International/Directors Cuts all came included as well. Would have gladly taken those over the DVD discs.

Is this edition valuable now? Is it OOP or getting close to going OOP?

I have the UK version and I' pretty sure it's out of print. There's a few on eBay going for ~£50-100 depending on location and condition, though there's a version Amazon France for ~25 Euros.

Ive seen them going for ~$100 on ebay. I believe that is the release that has every version of Blade runner on the discs.

I've been looking to get the set for a while, but what I want to know is whether the other cuts are also on 4K discs or they're just standard Blu-rays? If not, I guess I can just get the Final Cut 4K.
