Certainly not (although at times I have been proven incorrect and ended up seeing and then loving something that seemed like it would not appeal at all, of course sometimes I have ended up seeing such and also been correct), but it just seems curious to not give a sequel to another movie that apparently super appeals to you a chance, especially when it is kinda of the same sort of thing. It's not like something totally unrelated and totally different from something you already did find appealing. I mean who knows maybe you wouldn't be a wild fan of 2049, but it seems like if there was one to try anyway, it might be one so closely tied to something you know you already did like. But to each their own.

It actually mirrors a lot of the same key themes and adds depth to the whole original intent by bringing it to another level with replicants now sometimes (and sometime snot) treating AI like many humans thought of replicants.

I make a point of watching a movie a month that outwardly seems to not interest me. Otherwise I would get locked into specific genres of interest and never branch out. I do the same with music and have found hundreds of artists through exploring. So while I totally think each person should go with wahtever works for them, I could never close myself in around what I think interests me. Sometimes what others find interesting can end being so for me.

Eh, I could say you're missing out, but you not bothering with it doesn't in any way affect me or the film's overall reputation. You do you, man.

Yeah, so like...people say it's really good and a worthy sequel from one of the best directors currently making films and you're like "Nah."

Gotcha.

That's kinda dumb.

You stubborn old goat. Watch the OG then follow it up with 2049 you will have a nice night

2049 has no bearing on the original for me, I am able to enjoy it as before, as a complete standalone movie esp since Vangelis' score is untouchable

Since you guys are often interested in sound though, even just from a pure audio point of view it's well worth your time in my opinion, but that's your choice..

Appreciate all the love BR2049 has out there, and glad you all enjoy it so much... but there's zero chance I'm gonna go down that road. I've had many seemingly no-brainer opportunities to see it -- including free passes to a special screening at the outstanding DGA theater in Hollywood, the year it came out -- and I've passed up every one of those opportunities that've come along; even some where I've been on the cusp of "caving in" and then was like "nah". Just genuinely not interested; so I relate to what Jay H wrote. A little surprised at some of the pressure here, lol. I mean, who cares if we see it or not? Granted, I wouldn't have come here just to assert that I was "never planning to watch BR2049", but I thought Jay H. needed some support.

And by the way, I similarly have no plans to ever watch Prometheus or Covenant either... and you can't make me. Lol.

Ouch.

I would like to point out, I never once said anything negative about those who chose to watch it.

But, I guess that's also kinda dumb. I'll try to be smarter in the future.

Wise decision regarding Prometheus and Covenant. Since the former makes promises that the latter couldn't keep.

Liked Prometheus, watched it a few times, have zero interest in ever watching Covenant. A movie that you haven't seen not appealing to you isn't strange at all.

Sometimes you wish you had the hindsight before seeing something, because Covenant renigged on what Prometheus was setting up, and just gave us a pretentious yet dumb ass Alien movie that was of course pretty to look at. It's basically a road that leads to nowhere.

Renniged... I could tell that's what it was gonna do as soon as I angrily watched the trailer on YouTube the day it came out. **** you, Fox. Bunch of over-reactive, alarmist, tinkering dumbasses in charge.

Hey Jay H, if you never see it that’s fine by me, however you might checkout the opening scene as Ridley had that scene in mind for the original Bladerunner but it never made it to film. Obviously it’s dialogue is altered to fit a different Bladerunner and replicant but visually the whole scene is right up Ridley’s alley

I didn't really care 2049 myself. Don't get me wrong I can see that its a good film, it just personally left me cold. Then again I remember being a bit lukewarm on the original on first viewing and only fell in love with it on subsequent rewatches, so maybe I should give 2049 another chance.

I like 2049, but I don't get the urge to watch it that often (the original gets two viewings a year).

Prometheus > Covenant > 2049

Prometheus > Covenant > 2049
Always respected your opinion, but stating that Alien Covenant is a better film than BR 2049 has left me questioning many things, like are you actually sane!?

I find 2049 to be a little dry. Covenant is messy, but I like the weird places it goes.

I was a tad apprehensive when first reading/hearing about a sequel to Blade Runner those few years ago (“a sequel to BR? WTF, it’ll be terrible”). However, thanks to the project being in the safe hands of DV, 2049 more than lives up to the legacy set by the original.
I still watch the original a lot more than 2049, but I’d go so far as to say 2049 is still a near masterpiece (just not as near as the original, which is an all-time great).
