The main reason I needed new cables was to get some ultra thin ones that I can run through cable raceways along my baseboards. like I said, trying to make it look pretty with cable management.

Watched last night, thought it looked great. HDR on the city at night, cop cars, etc... looked real natural.

Default Holy smokes is this an awesome disc.

I think I may have to keep changing my top five UHDs again and again, just incredible...

I was right on the tipping point of getting a 4K setup, had the money and the desire, but no reason to do it.

My 55' Sony X900E comes Monday afternoon. I got a new 4K amp and Samsung UHD player hooked up already. The 18gbps HDR HDMI cables from Monoprice should be here Tuesday, along with some new cable management stuff(figured I might as well tear down and rebuild all the wires, make it pretty). And the copy of Blade Runner I ordered on Friday shipped on Sunday(gotta love Prime).

I can't freaking wait, been itching to do this for a while.
Your new equipment (congrats!) is still vulnerable to brownouts, spikes, and surges (you aren't out of the woods yet as the grid isn't stable due to storm damage and your locale is prone to severe weather disturbances), and so I highly recommend picking up a whole house surge protector.

Secondary surge boxes at the equipment location are only good for any residual let-through (small upticks in voltage). All points of cable and/or satellite, and/or OTA antenna signal entry must be shunted to proper earth ground.

Otherwise, you're all set for another equipment failure.

FYI

Test them before you place these thin cables into your raceways. They have a higher instance of bandwidth issues for 4k, WCG, HDR, and high frame rates, especially when they're all together.

Sometimes thin is pretty, but extremely high maintenance.

Yeah, I know. I live in a condo, so i am unable to install a whole house one. I am going to get another battery backup protector(I have one on my PC). I am waiting till i get the surge protector box I ordered before i go buy one to make sure it will fit inside the box. This thing. I honestly should have gotten a battery backup surge protector for the home theater years ago, but I was lazy. I need to get something for the Microwave, Fridge and oven as well.

And yeah on the cables, I shall test before installing into the raceways. I am trying to make this home theater invincible and slick looking, while being easy to clean, and not be ashamed of it when guests are over. I shall post pictures when I got it up and running.

This CyberPower Battery backup is what I have my eye on now.

You need something more robust than that and which includes a pure sine wave generator (not a simulated square wave) for home theater usage.

Look at something like this:

http://www.microcenter.com/product/3...oax_Protection

However, you need to make sure to size it to the total equipment draw and then add some padding in case you add more gear later.

I will just get this then. Money is not really an object here.

CyberPower - 1325VA Sine Wave Battery Back-Up System - Black

It wont fit in the box, but i can still use that to bundle all the power cables together, and have the surge protector sit on the bottom shelf of my TV stand where i can see the readouts.

I also doubt I will be adding more gear in the future, other than replacing stuff. I will eventually replace the Samsung UHD player with the high end region free Oppo player, and sometime down the line I will get a Atmos/DTS X Amp to replace the Onyko i got for now. I got those two devices because they were relatively inexpensive compared to the gear I would really like to get, but I could also still use them later in a secondary setup when I live in a larger house, and have the more expensive gear in the main Home Theater.

Go with this one. This is the larger model of the one I linked to previously and is listed as a pure sine wave generator on Cyberpower's website. On sale too for a little less money. I read a review that had placed this model line on a scope and it showed that it did indeed create a smooth wave.

Watched this for a second time, and I'm still amazed by how excellent of a disc this is. Can't help but wonder how good the original Total Recall would look on the format.

Blade Runner was shot in 35mm with an anamorphic lens, right? Was the 1.85 aspect for Total Recall achieved by taking advantage of the full 35mm frame? If so, then it too should look amazing. If only a portion of the 35mm frame was blown up though, then there will be more grain.

Went to do a couple of errands and stopped by BB to see if they had it. I was doubtful as none were showing within 250 miles. Much to my surprise they had 1. Bought it with a $5 gift card.

If I don't enjoy it I'll be glad to sell it to someone (not set up to sell on eBay though). Hopefully we could work something out.

It may be starting to show up at some BB's. I did a store pickup at a BB that is about a half hour from me (not the normal 2 i go to.) and boy was it worth it. What an amazing transfer! That was the only copy they had though

This! I put in a order for pick up earlier today. I thought it was a mistake cause it disappeared after I put it in. But sure enough they had it.

Closer shots reveal a good amount of grain whereas long shots are smoother looking. The HDR really gives so much more light in a dark world, with so many more shades of the colors I'm used to seeing since the second time I watched it on the letterboxed Laserdisc. (first being VHS) I've since had Blade Runner on DVD and BD. The neon in the city... the moving picture light signs just pop like crazy. It's a really nice jump from the bluray and a massive one from previous formats. It is most definitely, the best this film has ever looked but note there is noticeable grain here (as there always has been) for those who hate it or love it.

Just an update on my progress. Got the TV set up, and ensured it does work. It finds channels just fine off my OTA antenna, so the tuner in the LG must be bad for sure.

The only cable management thing that came today were the raceways, so I have setup most of them, have to wait for the HDMI cables before I proceed any further. Glad I kept the spare joiners and raceways from when I did my L/R rear speakers, as they have come in handy.

I also ran all the power cables and clustered them together, and ran some of my old slimline HDMI cables for my non-4K stuff(Nintendo Switch and SteamLink). I am ready to hook up the PS4 Pro and UHD player with the new cables.

Tomorrow the cable concealment box, customizable neoprene sleeves, Cyberpower surge protector and Blade Runner should show up. It is also possible that the HDMI cables will show up. If that happens I may finish on Tuesday, but at the latest on Wednesday.

An update on the Australian version of the 4K disc if anyone's interested - my review copy of the 4K release arrived today and it's a mix of good and bad news.

The good: The rave reviews from overseas weren't wrong - it's an absolutely stunning 4K presentation. The HDR is amazing and holy crap those model shots look sublime.

The bad: The 4K disc is accompanied by the 1080p Final Cut Blu-ray, as well as 'Dangerous Days' on a DVD disc - as per the 25th anniversary release. This means that the 4K release is missing the additional cuts, as well as many of the featurettes and deleted scenes from the 25th/30th anniversary edition that feature on the new U.S. 4K release. However, there is a slight silver lining in that the SD PAL presentation of 'Dangerous Days' is the highest quality presentation we're probably going to ever get (despite PAL speedup).

Finally, Roadshow managed to screw up the packaging, similar to the local release of Ninja Turtles: Out of the Sewers 4K. The slick has been designed for a thin, U.S. style case, but has been stuck in a standard AUS style case. Anal collectors will be annoyed by the gaps on either side of the spine that are visible.
