I wasn't following the extras on this release, so I was also dumbstruck by the disc numbering. I googled for some unboxing videos to figure out what was going on and got even more confused since apparently the preview copies included the blu-ray with theatrical/director's/international cuts of the movie. That plus the stacking of the discs is pretty annoying. I would have been fine with a 2 disc set, with the second disc being the other cuts of the movie.

FWIW I recommend Reuben's review here on the site. It covers the "botch job" supplements discs issues well IMO.

Nolan involvement is the wild card. What I'm more curious about than "just" the question of whether or not the supplements disc is included with the UHD release or not is the role that Nolan clout could play in the possible re-pressing of the 1080 BD included for quality and (exclusion of?) content reasons.

Specifically, did he just play along with the "In-Movie Experience" for BB and TDK and the "Second Screen Experience" for TDKR then but has the clout to quash that now? Feels to me like the kind of gimmickry Nolan frowns upon. If it's nixed, will they present the "Focus Points" a la carte? TDK was Warner's first BD-Live title (hard to believe it's been almost 10 years . . . anyone else participate in the "Community Screening"?) but that content/menu structure is so passe now.

Interstellar is an easier one to quarterback (since all its supps are on the second disc). But those earlier releases caught up in the marketing sizzle of the day present some interesting movie disc-based supps questions.

Oh, you didn't say anything about the IME stuff up there, you specifically said "supplements discs" by way of context so I replied in kind. It certainly would be great for fans if the 1080p discs of the first two Nolan Batmans got redone but if they were (just like Unforgiven, not so much for Blade Runner sadly) it'd be for better picture quality first and foremost. Losing the gimmicks would be a welcome byproduct but fans are funny about things like that, when stuff gets taken away they can get mad. Warners could keep the Focus Points as little standalone videos though, as you say.

Man, the latest couple of posts have me really excited about the Atmos mix on this disc now. Sounds like it's reference material from an audio perspective too, not just picture quality. I'm surprised how good some of these Atmos "remixes" are on catalog releases - The Fifth Element sounded fantastic too. I haven't had a chance to check out The Professional yet but have heard great things about that disc's Atmos mix too.

Just got off with WB, unfortunately they don't have the awesome Blu-ray disc from the 30th anniversary edition that contained all the special features plus the work print. They are willing to send the DVD with the special features that contains Dangerous Day, if your set came with the Blu-ray that has the three cuts of the film.

Does the UK special edition come with 3 different cuts in 4k or just the final cut in 4k?

I finally found a copy. 3 weeks late and it's currently selling for $60 on Amazon. Very poor treatment of customers in my opinion. I have the 5 disc collectors edition from 2007 so I am not bothered by the botched extra's but it still adds insult to the poor release and the nose bleed prices.

As for the disc. I am happy. Visually you can actually see the limitations of the cameras that captured it at times. I believe this is the last big jump in quality we will ever see for this film. I am very satisfied with the 4K master they did back in 2007 and the new HDR work adds just a little color boost to the overall image so that it pops a little more without feeling wrong or disrespectful of the original intent. Some of the shots in this movie are breathtaking with so much detail it overloads my senses at times.

Like most Atmos tracks, this one makes the overall audio experience feel more natural and open. The upper channels are used primarily for thunder and rain but they add some environmental support in crowded areas and when loud bursts of sound cut into the soundscape. To me the entire audio experience sounds less directional and more natural probably due to the atmos processing. Of course the intended directional audio sources still sound clear and accurately placed.

Very good disc on the technical side of things and being that it's for a great classic film I couldn't be happier on that end.

So I had to cobble together my own SE or ultimate version of this since I sold my limited edition suitcase version. First, I gave WB some grief over the phone about putting DVDs in a UHD set. I told the lady I spoke with that it would've been like including a VHS tape when I purchased the Blu-ray suitcase edition. Unfortunately they don't have any third discs left from the 30th anniversary edition, which included all the special features from the two DVDs back in 2007.

I luckily found the 30th anniversary edition at Barnes and Noble for $13.99. I will just replaced the DVDs from this edition with discs two and three from that edition. I will then have a complete set like my 2007 suitcase edition. All in UHD and Blu-ray with no DVDs. So actually it will be an upgrade from that version

I really shouldn't have to do this though. If WB put any sort of time into this release, they would have sold the version I am making. It's also my understanding that the European version will mimic the version I am making.

I am also convinced that WB is setting up a double dip here. I am fairly certain they will release a 4K SE within a few years just like my cobbled together version.

If your a fan in the US and want to make the version I am making. I believe B&N still has some 30th Anniversary copies left.

I watched Leon last night for a second time and I have to say that I wasn't as impressed as others here with the ATMOS. I mean it's not terrible, but I didn't find anything to get super excited about either.

Best Buy has this available for order now and shipping now, it also has it available at almost all my local stores. Looks like they finally got their act together.

Finally got my new TV calibrated this morning with the Spears & Munsil disc plus various youtube settings videos. Ended up being an amalgamation of several sources for the settings. Now I am working my way through several movies while I wait for Fedex with the new Yamaha. Going to wait and save Blade Runner for after I get the new amp installed though.

Nah. WB was holding back copies to include on a new "genre" endcap shipper that goes out tomorrow. That's why it's suddenly back in stock.

Alright guys. Last Off Topic post, promise. New Yamaha amp is installed and working. Sound is much better than the Onkyo, everything has more punch to it and is less fuzzy sounding. Setup was a breeze, once the physical configuration was done, it took 10 minutes to run the YPAO mic, get on wifi, and enable ARC. I am going to have to fiddle with it some more, but first I have to take the Onkyo back. Thanks for everyone who pitched in with advice and help. I love my home theater, but its been a few years since I actually had to buy anything, and this whole 4K upgrade was unplanned and happened in a flurry.

So the wife and I decided to watch this last night. We've never seen the full movie despite some number of attempts (maybe 3?) over the course of the past 20 years. I think every time we fell asleep.

This time we made it until Darryl Hannah's character was introduced before my wife succumbed and we stopped. Something about the pacing and the soundtrack make it trance-inducing.

Next attempt will be an afternoon.

I wish you luck watching it man, it really is an amazing movie. I miss Scotts super tight two hour movies that were really good. Alien and Blade Runner would be the best examples of this. In the last 20 years his movies generally have to be longer to be really good, e.g. Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, The Martian. I like Alien: Covenant and Prometheus, but they are not his best to be sure.

Alien is in my top ten of all time. I generally like his movies (seen Kingdom of Heaven 3 times, Promethius 3 times, Gladiator 2 times, etc).

I blame Vangelis.
