No, but they put it on their discs. I've had legit retail BDs get their audio locked out at 20 minutes in my BD PC drive because of it. It's a piece of crap.

Ah okay, that does suck. There are plenty of reasons to have beefs against Sony anyway. They make a lot of stupid decisions.

The amount of lazy, shitty transfers we've seen is a disgrace to the format. The whole point of blu ray is to offer the very best, but we've become accustomed to studios rolling out crusty old made-for-DVD or HDTV masters, and settled for 'the best it's ever looked on home video' reviews (no shit).

I've waited for something like this - a benchmark that celebrates quality and punishes crap - for a long time and almost gave up. Hopefully, other studios will now see that 4K mastering is worthwhile, if only from a marketing perspective. They get to sell a 'premium' product at a higher price, we finally get a decent transfer. Frankly, I'm happy to pay more for the very best.
4K does not automatically equal "quality". There have been crap 4K transfers.

If you guys would like to see a clip from Ghostbusters MI4K let me know.
Yes please! Any others you have, as well. It's nice to take a look at these, without blowing the money.

Watched Ghostbusters up until they caught Slimer. For anyone on the fence on whether or not the 4k version is worth it, I say do not hesitate, get it! Video is day and night.

I don't know about BT 709/ISF. The VT50 is from Panasonic 2012. It is a THX certified set and we spent time with a calibration blu ray disc and went into the advanced settings and fine tuned the white balance, colour management and gamma.
Thanks for the picture. And you said your outputting YCbCr 4:4:4, is deep colour also enabled? What Blu-ray player are you using Ric?

Have you guys read differently? My player/projector both support standard xvYCC, but from my understanding this is a proprietary version that wont work in non Sony players/4k displays.
I doubt it. Depending on the display/projector the extended gamut range supported between displays may differ, as the extended gamut range information is passed from source to display via GBD (Gamut Boundary Description) metadata over HDMI. This allows the display to map the received extended colours to its own gamut. Sony's new line of displays may support a larger number of extended colours and produce a 'better looking image' when fed xvYCC (if in the first place the display is properly calibrated).

It's the Panasonic 3d blu ray player. Model dmp-bdt300. It's got custom firmware for multi region and it seems to allow remove forced subs on French titles

So does this 4K stuff mean I am going to have to buy Halloween (1978) for the 50th time?

Most likely not because Sony does not distribute Halloween.

Correct this curious outsider if I'm wrong but aren't the screenshots for the 4k master pointless? considering you need certain hardware to see the expanded colour spectrum and what not...

Those are useless since you can't see different for more than 10' when have 4k tv, except you have a >80" 4k TV. The price is $14.99 at frys.

If that's the case, then I guess we need to see an Optometrist. That's what all the defensive people always say.

These 2 screen captures are only a few frames apart so that you get an idea:

2009 BD: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/scree...276&position=5
4K: http://imgbox.com/acvvLjbo

Grain is about the same, but the colors are much more natural and not washed out like they were in the original release.
