Well let's see: DVD had 480i resolution, SD colors, horrible transfers from old telecines, no kidding the difference going to BD was big With UHD they are basically using the same scans/transfers used for Blu-ray with output at 2160p. The difference is gonna be much less dramatic... |

follow-up from the 5/14/2015 tidbit -
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...a#post10803567 e.g. HDR10 uses static metadata while dolby vision uses dynamic metadata….http://hdguru.com/dolby-vision-tries...t-bar-for-hdr/ on the other hand, the hybrid log gamma approach demoed at ibc2015 for live TV production distribution needed no metadata and actually looked purty good |

Just got back from a 4DX screening of Pan at Cineworld in Sheffield, I couldn't believe how good it was, it was in 3D as well which was about the only down side, it really needed a 4K screen and 4K 3D. Put it this way from now on if I can afford it I will watch everything in 4DX, I never thought I would be saying that. Pan definitely works in 4DX

soooo, technologically inquiring minds might ask (while watching/waiting on an answer to appearance status - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...g#post11362831) what be dee bitrate demand for compressing HDR movie content, as compared to SDR content?
well, for the dark/darker images of the movie, the compressionist can actually get away with using lower bitrates (as compared to when encoding in SDR) without artifacts becoming perceivable to the viewer ![]() |

on the other hand, due to HDR’s greater non-linearity in the acceptable compression rate frame to frame than is the case with the standard dynamic range (SDR) used in traditional television, brighter images demand more bits
