Default Future of 4K Blu-rays from Disney

so captain america civil war, jungle book, rogue one: a star wars story and star wars TFA all have 4k DI's supposedly, i think by the end of the year after rogue one is released they will announce 4k discs, it would be a good move for them, they can pop out 2 films which will most likely have made $1b, and star wars which will also be a huge seller on the format..

here's me hoping at least!

I think Disney is just waiting for Dolby Vision to get on board with UHD Blu-ray. With the recent announcements, then it might not be as far off as we think. Hopefully by the end of the year or the beginning of next year.

My gut instinct is 4th quarter is a good launch period.

All movies you mentioned are/will be in 2K DCP (Blame 3D). Not sure if they really had a "4K" DI, but VFX are assumed to be only 2K.

2K VFX for The Jungle Book

I just want Into the Woods in 4K. Sooner or later, I'm gonna grow tired of masturbating to Emily Blunt in Sicario 4K.

I'm sure there will be more 4k Blu rays to masturbate to Emily Blunt with.

Yesterday I posted this in the Star Wars thread:

At the 30:42 mark, Ben Rosenblatt of Bad Robot, who is there talking about the Star Wars: The Force Awakens HDR versions, says they just recently finished their "home video HDR pass..." While not an official announcement of a UHD version, it's nice to know it's being worked on.

https://youtu.be/1MOHArypsUQ?t=30m42s

Also interesting, right after that, Thad Beier of Dolby said that while doing the HDR grade, they realized some images were clipped, so they re-scanned some scenes for HDR.
He also uploaded videos of the First Forays: High Dynamic Range in Animation panel. This one included people from Pixar's Inside Out and Disney's Zootopia. During the Q&A at the end, the question of home HDR comes up. They reiterate that Disney has no plans for home versions of HDR content as of yet, but they have already created a home HDR pass of Zootopia, and they are currently working on Inside Out's home HDR pass. And interestingly, they say that the theatrical HDR grades do not directly translate to home. They need specific home grades, which can have greater highlights and contrast.

Here is the Q&A in the 2nd video starting at the 14:29 mark:

Glad they are working on the HDR passes at least. Would love to see some of their more popular movies in HDR (Star Wars, Zootopia, Frozen, etc), especially since they are known for colorful movies and that animation especially looks good in HDR. I'm sure they will be on board sooner or later.
