Oh, brother......here we go again with the upgrade bug. I'd be all in for an 8k projector but not an 8k TV. If LG releases this monster this year will that speed up the production of hdmi 2.1 across the home theater product lines?

Impressive. Prices are great too (at least over here in the Benelux).

I don't care for 8K at this moment, but I would definitely be in for 4000 nits (D65) and an insane high zone count along with QD.

I'm anticipating Sony's next move at CES 2019.

The 2020 color thing is completely bogus. The reason we don't have true full 2020 content now is because of the limitations of the capture and mastering system. 8k could be vital to the VR/AR industry. 8K would pretty much be photo realistic. Also, AR in 8K could give us Scarlet Johansson as digital assistant, so there is that!

I think 83" was just too much tech real estate for them to handle so they dialed it down to 82". One inch really doesn't matter too much, right?

Not random. There is logic in it. That's more or less the biggest size you can get away with on an install without requiring more than four hands (two people) to do the work and it's just large enough to showcase the technology and the 8K resolution in a single panel display. You really wouldn't want a smaller set for that resolution and brightness. The size also sets it apart from other sets, making it unique. There may also be technical considerations like "It was the best size we could get to function within the specs we were going for.".

I have just never heard of it as a size before, seems random

I'm all in for supporting these 8k TVs... in hopes that this causes the price of true 4k projectors to drop lol.

Also JVC just announced their first 8k e-shift projector.
