I just purchased the new edition of Castle in the Sky, and I am mortified that it contains "dub-titles" instead of the original subtitle track. I also own the original DVD release of the film, and that one included true subtitles. The new release only contains a subtitled transcript of the English dub. I sadly do not own the original Disney releases of My Neighbor Totoro or Kiki's Delivery Service, nor did I buy the new editions, so I don't know if the new release of these films also have "dub-titles," but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. What's really unfortunate is that the original DVDs seem to be very hard to find now (Castle in the Sky is still available from Amazon). I really don't understand how Disney could screw up like this.

All the Japanese DVDs I have of Ghibli titles carry their official subs. I don't have Nausicaa or Laputa Blus so I haven't seen those either

I don't think it's been in development long enough to be described as "hell". Far as I know they haven't even officially designated a studio partner

Attempts to reboot the franchises bombed, no one is in any hurry. I would assume that WB will launch them as doublepacks down the line, and who knows what Paramount will do.

I assume this comment was made in regards to the Mass Effect film. Legendary (who owns the film rights) has a distribution deal with Warner until 2012.

The most recent game in the series, Mass Effect 2, was released in January of 2010.

I am just curious if it will actually happen given the budget it will likely require and considering that a Bioshock film absolutely failed to get off the ground eventhough Gore Verbenski still wants to do it. The one thing that ME has going for it is that it will not have to command an R rating.

Matthew Fox or Dominic Purcell is the person that should play Shepard. For the aliens, they MUST keep the voices that were used in the game. Seth Green could work as Joker.

As far as I know based on some screenwriting books I have, development hell is a term used to describe the period between when a studio purchases a script and when it actually enters pre-production with attached directors and actors.

I could be wrong, maybe that's just a screenwriter's perspective.

Development hell is when it languishes, not really going anywhere without a clear start date, but yes it does describe that period

I just hope they can make a movie out of it. I am very concerned if they can do the source material justice. A big part of Mass Effect was making choices and you cant do that in a movie.

If Drew Karpyshyn and Mac Walters are attached then I will be happy.

It has been suggested on the Bioware forums that a Mass Effect movie wont involve Commander Shepard.

Who knows at this point. I just hope they can do it justice.

don't know if this has been asked, covered, etc. but can the Bits get to the bottom of this new A Clockwork Orange release and find out if it going to be the new restoration that is being screened at that film festival?
Warner certainly doesn't seem to be making a point of mentioning whether it is or not, but it's hard to fathom they would release the same old disc if a new restoration is already in the can.

Earlier European market pre-release details have said that it is the new re-master.

Meanwhile, I'm a bit sad we're getting nothing new for 2001.

Oh, and Warner- there's NO WAY I'm re-buying a handful of discs I already own just to get my hands on Barry Lyndon. Hopefully you'll release it on its own, day and date. If not, it'll be the new Clockwork only for me until you do release it on its own.
