The Quadrilogy IS what's coming on Blu-ray - upgraded with new features and with all the old material too. We've mentioned this on The Bits I believe, at least in The Rumor Mill. That's all I can say for now.

Warner does have more Looney Tunes plans. My understanding is that the Golden Collections haven't necessairly been discontinued. Hopefully they'll announce more soon.

It wasn't me who asked that question, but it seems WB didn't quite understand it.

The poster was very likely asking about Blu-ray plans on Barry Lyndon and Lolita, which are the two Kubrick titles that Warner owns and haven't been released on BD yet.

If in fact, there are no plans for Barry Lyndon on Blu-ray, it's sad news.
I'll ask about them, but my last information was that 1) they require a lot more restoration and 2) classic titles are selling slowly on BD so it might take a while to get it out.

That was a bit of a different issue. Sometimes, there might be a production related issue on the Blu-ray, or replication or what have you, like Quo Vadis. But the point is, for most of their key titles going forward, the plan is to release them at the same time.

Same here. It's depressing to think there wouldn't be more.

Yeah, I seem to recall - I'd have to go back and look at my e-mail - that after the word spread that the GC was done, they told me not necessairly, that they were just reevaluating and that they did have more plans for Looney Tunes collection product. So hopefully we'll know more in the coming months.

Are there any plans from the studios to help catalog titles sell better? Such as promos or sales? Or are they just saying "well, catalog titles aren't selling, so we'll just release alot less in response"?

Asking customers to pay $20 for catalog title when the dvd is less than $10 is a bit much. I know there are sales sometimes, but catalogs still get released at a $20 selling price. And in the case of Fox, over $20. Right now, Little Miss Sunshine is $24.99 at Target. How many people are going to pay $25 for that movie at Target when the dvd is $10 or less?

Sounds great, as long as it has ALL of the previous special features from the Quad set I will be happy.

Additional stuff I would like to see:

Alien
A cut of Alien with all scenes present. Not necessary, but cool.
There really isnt too much that they could add for Alien. Charlie did this perfect the first time

Aliens
Remastered to give it the best presentation possible. I accept that its never gonna look great, but I really hope they use a newer master than the 1997 transfer which got repurposed for the Quad set.
Sigourney Weaver commentary.
The deleted scenes that were left out of the Quad set (Coccooned Burke)

Alien 3:
David Fincher participation. Im aware that this is not likely to happen, but I am a fanboy and I can dream!
Workprint or David Fincher cut with the Actor lines redubbed.
The original unedited documentary not the one done by Frederick Garvin (LOL)
If David Fincher participates, Id like to see the documentary re-edited.
Alien 3 has a lot to ask for and wouldnt be surprised if none of what I am asking for comes to pass.

Alien Resurrection:
Nothing needed, its fine the way it is. Maybe some deleted scenes wouldnt hurt.

My fanboy wishlist.

As long as they keep the extended cuts intact, thats all I absolutely require to get the bluray set.

Default Regarding classic film sales..

Hi all. I think that the studios need to market their classic film titles much like classic recording artists have promoted their newest albums.

Similar, to say, Barry Manilow presenting his latest disc on Home Shopping Network, Warner, for instance, should have, "An Evening with Casablanca", on a HSN outlet, or maybe even on Turner Classics.

Such a presentation could provide an in depth look at how the film was prepared for Blu-ray/DVD, and could highlight the special features included with the disc.

Besides giving a "special celebration release" feel, to the arrival of the film on disc, it is likely the studios would be reaching the audience, that would make the bulk of the disc's target demographic- but on a much larger scale, effectively promoting to interested consumers that do not frequent the sites and magazines that keep the rest of us aware of new releases.

So is it safe to say that Paramount has abandoned plans for an extended edition of Transformers on blu.

If they wanted to tie it in with the movie, I would have thought they would have announced it by now.

Or perhaps they are waiting until Transformers 2 will hit blu.

Jeff? Bill?

That would really surprise me, unless they ran into a permanently-insurmountable production hurdle. I think an extended Transformers BD would be a sure-fire money-spinner.

Abandoned is a harsh word, remember that they never even announced it

I think Paramount is very aware that people just bought thing thing less than a year ago on Blu, and that going back to the well so soon would result in more blowback than it's probably worth

So they will eventually release it right?

There will probably be an extended edition double dip of Transformers 2 as well, right? I'm going to hold out for it.

Exactly. My guess is that when Transformers 2 shows up on Blu-ray, you'll see it then.

Basically, the opposite of how Disney feels towards No Country for Old Men?

Hey Jeff and Bill, I know this was asked back in December but I was curious if either of you have heard of Dune (1984) coming out on Blu-ray anytime soon? I owned the HD DVD and loved the PQ. I would love to hear Dune with DTS-HD MA since it's a Universal title. Please say you've heard something...my copy of Dune on DVD autographed by Sting is getting a workout.

I wish Universal had been able to work out a deal with Lynch to supervise his own extended cut of DUNE. I heard from somebody who knows somebody that Lynch was very close to working on such a project for the previous "special edition" DVD release (indeed, this was in the rumor mill at the Digital Bits back in the day), but the deal fell apart and all we got was the extended, disjointed TV cut re-mastered in anamorphic widescreen instead. The TV cut has some great additional scenes and scene extensions, but it's put together in such a sloppy, haphazard way. I'd really love to see Lynch have a crack at putting together his own, no-running-time limit version- or, barring that, they could hire Charles de Lauzirika to reconstruct the 4-plus hour workprint in close-to-finished quality, a la his great work on ALIEN 3
