Was the first one any good?
Sort of, not really, even in director's cut form

Supposedly this one has a pretty good script

Dog really hates Nicholas Cage, so even when he does good movies he can't give it to him

I'm especially offended by what he does to movies that would otherwise be good.

Raising Arizona

Leaving Las Vegas

Kick Ass

Cage has plenty of crap on his resume. Plenty of good stuff too. I have to say I enjoyed The Rock, Con Air, and the National Treasure films.

Knowing was a big suprise like for me last year. Proyas is really hit or miss for me, this one hit.

Regardless of what a lot of people say I really found Knowing to be great. A lot of people seemed to have disliked the ending. Personally I find it to be a Close Encounters of the Third Kind style ending and provides hope.

I also love the brooding atmosphere. It's something I feel Proyas is legendary at.

Kick Ass was actually quite good in spite of Nick Cage being involved. I think the brevity of his appearance combined with his fate allowed it to work for me. Knowing is a film I fully expected to like, and really didn't. I can't say for sure if it was the film or Cage that ruined it for me. Given that Ebert and I see eye to eye on Dark City, I'm leaning towards Cage.
I have seen neither Leaving Las Vegas nor Adaptation because Cage is so prominently featured. I know they are otherwise great films, but when I see him on screen, and especially when he speaks, I throw up in my mouth a little.

According to the Times Star Wars will be getting a 3D re-release. I was under the impression that Lucas had abandoned the idea since the results were not encouraging.

http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/20...-3-d/?emc=eta1

The kicker:
The Phantom Menace will come first.

Technology and skill are both always improving. I'm sure the cash in and quality levels reached a parity he couldn't ignore.
The Phantom Menace is the first chronologically - I really couldn't see him releasing the series any other way.

Yeah, until all the 3d conversion mad bank started hitting for R&D. Notice how far out the OT is. Re-rendering all the CG in the prequels is cake for 3D

Makes sense since he now knows he has to get more and more created to find ways to get people to keep paying for Star Wars.

Now that the film is on dvd (and soon to be bluray) most people have all the Star Wars they ever need.

No doubt that there will be at least 2 bluray releases. I'm sure a seperate 3D release will be coming after all the films are shown theatrically.

Default Criterion doing Fincher's "The Game"!! Really? Can it be?

Jeff / Bill, thanks for the post on The Bits regarding Fincher's "The Game" - http://www.digitalbits.com/#mytwocents.

I have been waiting a really, really, really long time for a decent edition of this one to come out.

Should I start quivering in anticipation now, or are we still a looong way out on this one?

Lucas has to get his $1.5 billion donation back somehow! I was thinking the same thing, as far as getting the PT first.

So now that this is officially underway and that Lucas is overseeing the conversion with John Knoll, does this mean that ROTS is last "new" film of any kind that we've seen from Lucas?

He has his Tuskeegee Airmen movie

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485985/

I wouldn't be suprised if he directed the first ep of the live-action SW series

I'm hoping it's sooner than later. Maybe it'll be ready to coincide with The Social Network's BD debut, which will probably be in the Spring.

I'd also hope that Sony provides us with Panic Room on that day.

Yeah, I know about that one. And isn't the tv series stalled right now, because they can't scripts that will work on a tv budget?

I was referring more to his experimental art films that he would be directing. He's been talking about those since around AOTC.

Can't believe Red Tail is taking this long to come out, almost forgot about it.

Frankly, his "Clone Wars" series is the best thing he's done since the Indy trilogy. The entertainment and quality of animation are amazing for a weekly TV show. I hated the "Clone War" movie, but the series has become a weekly family event in our house.

Yeah, can't wait for Season 2 of the Clone Wars on Blu-ray. I tend to avoid the spoilers and such... but largely know the general events.

I did prefer the plotlines and generally more serious characterizations in the Samurai Jack cartoon better, but obviously like the animation of the new one better.
